Job Title: Sterile Processing Technologist

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technologist is responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment used in sterilization processes to ensure the quality and safety of medical instruments and supplies. They work closely with healthcare professionals and follow industry regulations and guidelines to prepare sterile equipment for surgeries and medical procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Perform sterilization and disinfection of medical instruments and equipment following established protocols.

2. Inspect, assemble, and package surgical instruments, trays, and equipment for use in medical procedures.

3. Operate and maintain sterilizers, washers, and other equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

4. Monitor and maintain accurate records of sterilization process parameters, including temperature, pressure, and time.

5. Organize and maintain inventory of sterile supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels are maintained.

6. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to determine specific sterilization requirements for various procedures.

7. Follow proper infection control practices to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

8. Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sterilization equipment.

9. Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations to minimize workplace hazards.

10. Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and changes in sterilization techniques.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in sterile processing technology is preferred.

2. Proven experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or similar role is highly desired.

3. Familiarity with sterilization techniques, medical supplies, and instrumentation.

4. Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

5. Knowledge of infection control protocols and practices.

6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

8. Proficiency in using sterilization equipment and computer systems for inventory management.

9. Physical stamina to lift and move heavy equipment.

10. Familiarity with regulatory standards and guidelines, such as those provided by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) or the Joint Commission (TJC).
