Summary:
Under direct supervision, following established standards and procedures perform routine duties necessary for the proper function of the Central Service department. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cleaning, wrapping, sterilization, storage and distribution of instruments and/or supplies utilized by the Procurement and Processing department.
Shift/Hours: Friday through Sunday, 10AM - 10PM
Responsibilities:
- To assist with handling and set up of equipment and supplies to be processed by Central Services.
- Receives, cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments and/or equipment as necessary.
- Maintaining inventory par levels for Central Services in order to properly supply Processing and Procurement department needs.
- Maintain and fill solution carts as needed.
- Sterilize instruments, equipment, linen and supplies using steam and Sterrad sterilizers. Load the sterilizers appropriately.
- Perform daily monitoring and maintenance of sterilization equipment.
- Perform Quality Control for the sterilizers to verify that all requirements for sterilization have been met.
- Complete the appropriate manual documentation and electronic records prior to the sterilization process.
- Attend continuing education courses to retain certification as it relates to the Central Service Department.
- Receive deliveries and place supplies in proper locations within Central Services as necessary.
Requirements:
- Work requires the ability to stand for ninety percent of the work time.
- Work requires the mental ability to prepare the documentation necessary to conform to the standards outlined in SOP policy, AAMI and AATB standards, OSHA requirements and all other relative agencies.
- Work requires the ability to lift and carry equipment ranging in weight from one to fifty pounds ten percent of the work time.
- Work requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Work requires the ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
- Work requires the ability to achieve C.R.C.S.T. certification.
- Work requires the interpersonal ability to interact with staff and management.
- Work requires a minimum of one-year experience in a Central Service or Sterile Processing department.
- Work requires good eye and hand coordination.
Working Conditions:
Work requires extended hours during peak processing and or procurement periods. Working environment temperatures may vary from 68 degrees F to 80 degrees F. Hazardous conditions include, but are not limited to, the exposure to blood and/or body fluids from potentially infected donors and the potential of obtaining cuts and or punctures to skin from sharp instruments.
