GENERAL DUTIES
- Schedules, performs and may oversee preventive maintenance.
- Adjusts HVAC systems water chemistry through testing, treatment, retesting and recording of readings.
- Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation, maintenance, adjustments, testing and repair of steam power plant, air conditioning, chiller plant, fire protection systems, electromechanical building equipment and related auxiliary systems in public buildings; performs related work.
- Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts in accordance with College procedures.
- Operates, maintains repairs and adjusts manuals and automatic gas and oil fired boilers, furnaces, steam reducing stations, engines, turbines , pumps, valves, heat exchangers, generators, motors, water treatment systems, cooling towers, condensers, evaporators, emergency generators and associated equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and lighting in public buildings and refuse incinerators.
- Orients, trains and monitors subordinates and other personnel on plant operations and job related safety.
- Reads meters, gauges and other recording devices keeping logs of same.
- Operates control consoles in control rooms for building maintenance and building automation systems.
- Prepares and maintains records and makes reports of both a technical and informational nature regarding HVAC maintenance and repair.
- Takes responsible charge of a watch and while so engaged, supervises and directs subordinates personnel; addresses emergency repairs as required.
- Directs the work of oilers, high pressure plant tenders and other subordinate personnel assigned to HVAC plant operations.
- Performs periodic inspections of equipment and repairs of such equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A valid License for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
A valid certificate of qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (unlimited capacity) issued by the New York City Fire Department and a CFC Certificate issued by EPA for Handling Refrigerants.
For appointment in certain Colleges, candidates will also be required, within 90days from the day of appointment, to obtain a valid Standpipe Certificate and Automatic Sprinkler Certificate issued by the New York City Fire Department.
COMPENSATION
Salary:$132,797. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
Please note that this is a provisional position, and it is contingent upon the establishment of a civil service test for the position. Once the test is established, the employee will be required to take the test and score within the established range to be considered for probable permanent status and sequentially permanent employment. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the termination of the employee.
