Staff Nurse, Adult Emergency Department

Join UChicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse in the Adult Emergency Department.
A Staff Nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.
The Adult ED consists of 45 patient care beds (and 12 fast-track chairs), including six trauma/resuscitation suites and separate rooms for infection isolation, care of immune compromised patients, and psychiatric consultations. In the general care area, 45 rooms are fully equipped with critical care monitoring capabilities. The six trauma/resuscitation suites are immediately adjacent to the ambulance bay. The main trauma suite is equipped with a video camera and monitor which is used to record and review resuscitations. This experience is invaluable for analyzing and learning from the acute care setting.
The University of Chicago Medicine is designated as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center, meaning the hospital is prepared to handle the most seriously injured trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We provide trauma surgery, acute care surgery and critical care surgery to treat injuries involving b urns, b lunt trauma, which can occur from falls or pedestrian-motor vehicle crashes and pe netrating traumas, typically seen in gunshot or stab wounds.
Required Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Nursing or higher
• Active BLS Certification
• Current Illinois RN license
• Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing

Required Education: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred. Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire , and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.

Must comply with UCMC’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process.
