The Details


We're hiring a Staff Accountant to join our AscendVets strategic administrative team in Lakeland, FL. The Accountant reports directly to our CEO and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, providing timely financial and management reporting to the leadership team, supporting our practice managers, and supporting and directing the Financial Specialist in collaboration with the CEO.


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Performs month-end accounting responsibilities, including posting journal entries, ensuring data is complete, and reviewing financials for needed corrections and variance analysis.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly sales tax returns.
  • Recommends and assists in streamlining/automating manual processes to create efficiencies.
  • Coordinates with external accountants for the preparation of tangible and federal tax returns.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliations of deposit and loan accounts to respective bank accounts.
  • Reconciles Accounts Receivable, Inventory, and Revenue to practice management software.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal control environment.
  • Reconciles clinic daily deposits from practice management software to QuickBooks and the respective bank accounts, following up on any discrepancies/corrections with the practice managers.
  • Presents recommendations to leadership on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Prepares and presents monthly financial and management reporting to owners and assists/provides recommendations for improved reporting to aid decision-making.
  • Oversees all aspects of accounting for veterinary practices, property holding companies, and corporate entity, including but not limited to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Financial and Managerial Reporting.
  • Ensures financial statement compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and provides financial statements to lenders as requested.
  • Maintains and balances intercompany accounts.
  • Prepares weekly Cash Position reporting.


Requirements


Required Skills/Abilities:


  • Excellent organizational, time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent managerial skills and ability to evaluate the work of others.
  • Proficient in accounting software; experience with Quickbooks online
  • Multi-company consolidation experience


Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting required.
  • Certified Public Accountant designation desired.
  • 5 years or more of related experience required.


Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
