Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Foamular S&T Sr. Scientist II, will be accountable for developing and maintaining expertise in the fundamental chemical properties of Foaming technology, Blowing Agents, and other performance enhancing technologies for the organization to deliver innovation and drive business-decisions to support growth of our North American Foamular brand business. This role provides hands-on technical product and technology development and testing oversight. As well as fundamental leadership within the S&T organization to key projects and is responsible for communicating results and explaining the business implications of these results to innovation partners, and occasionally to external partners, customers, or suppliers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Explore advanced materials and technology trends for opportunities in product differentiation and innovation.

  • Design, fabricate, and test working prototypes to demonstrate concept feasibility.
  • Identifies, understands, and models the habits, choices, and unarticulated needs of both our customers and end-users.
  • Screen and test advanced materials for XPS product differentiation, IP control points and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Monitor technology on trends compatible with thermoset domains including nanotechnologies, hybrid chemistries, EH&S aspects, new testing methods.
  • Stay current on relevant technical literature and patents.
  • Ensures that Owens Corning develops and maintains a sustainable competitive advantage by protecting your inventions through patents or trade secrets and enabling IP control points.


Execute project leadership on programs

  • Demonstrates the ability to define and meet key milestones, to work and communicate effectively with people at all levels within the organization, and to technically lead the development of solutions. Leads projects to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Projects to be managed through Stage Gate processes. Integrates technical and commercial capabilities to drive innovation. Implement disciplined, transparent, and focused approaches to solve problems through science and technology fundamentals.
  • Leads projects from concept through to implementation, for large cross-functional teams, and ensuring consistent alignment with the business strategy throughout the project.
  • Implements all projects deliverables in alignment with customer and business requirements and any approved scope changes.


Living Safely

  • Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self and coworkers
  • Ensures rigorous compliance to safety procedures and OC corporate policies
  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings


Protect OC Intellectual Property

  • File Invention Records on all innovations early in the innovation process
  • Write and file technical and memo reports in a timely manner, writing at least 2 reports annually
  • Understand and ensure communication with non-OC contacts is covered under NDA when applicable


JOB REQUIREMENTS


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a science laboratory and/or technology development environment
  • MSc in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related relevant field
  • Product development and/or Technology development experience
  • Travel: up to 20%


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in foam chemistry field, coatings expertise
  • Masters/PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or related chemistry field

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a global organization
  • Team-oriented – work effectively with peers, pilot operators, science leaders, engineering, and customers
  • Creative mindset – willing to try new ways of doing things to improve effectiveness or create value
