The Microbiology Division provides solutions and workflow for food, clinical, and pharmaceutical environments. The markets we serve include food manufacturers and labs, clinical and healthcare, pharma, and biotech. We manufacture culture media and other microbiological diagnostic products serving customers in the pharmaceutical, food, and clinical laboratories

How will you make an impact?

The Sr. PPI Manager is a lean leader who identifies, assesses, analyzes, and drives opportunities for continuous improvement. They directly lead their team and projects have clear ownership to drive execution.

Scope of Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate continuous improvement projects to improve aspects of site operations. Align projects to support business needs and targets. Responsible for coordinating the Root Cause Countermeasure process to close gaps in PPI Efficiency.
  • Facilitate Strategy Deployment sessions to develop annual strategic plans with a particular focus on expanding PPI into non-operations.
  • Communicate required reports and information as part of the SDG Business Management Processes. May periodically be assigned to lead specific projects across the group or company, which align with the SDG strategic plan and company goal tree objectives.
  • Champion, track, measure, and report on PPI savings and PPI Business System maturity monthly.
  • Challenge organizational leaders to build an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and proliferate PPI and Lean thinking throughout the organization.
  • Lead a team of Continuous Improvement professionals to inspire change and impact key business metrics.
  • Know which and when to apply various continuous improvement tools and concepts to efficiently complete key business projects.
  • Act as a change agent and constantly challenge the status quo.
  • Mentor the leadership team and shop floor colleagues to develop their Lean expertise over time.
  • In conjunction with the Lenexa site leader, successfully implement the PPI Business System strategic roadmap.
  • Support the development of process managers and kaizen leaders within the business functional areas to support ongoing process improvement. Provide mentorship for chartering of projects and kaizen events.
  • Lead utilization of the PPI Business System within the Lenexa site.
  • Identify standard processes within and outside the company and serve as a conduit for best-practice sharing and adoption.
  • Deliver training in the PPI Business System such as Lean leadership, value stream mapping, kaizen, daily management, waste and variation elimination, material flow, standard work, cellular flow, SMED, 5S, visual management, lean sourcing, Lean office, built-in quality, etc.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
  • Able to drive critical thinking and continuous improvement in both operational and non-operational areas, including connecting cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams. Skilled in guiding improvement concepts and principles to diverse audiences from senior management to front-line staff
  • High level of energy; can bring a passion to excel. Able to energize and influence a wide spectrum of people.
  • Excellent proactive communication capabilities, identifying and addressing issues via candid dialogue
  • Ability to quickly understand underlying business principles, assess target audience and make strong recommendations.
  • Deep knowledge of and “hands-on” experience training and implementing TPS-based business systems using the following tools is required. Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Leader Standard Work, and Gemba Walks). Expertise in problem-solving using a formal program/process.
  • The successful candidate is personable, highly ethical, and thrives in a collaborative environment. Exceptional leadership skills, especially in situations requiring persuading, resolving differences, and advising.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, operations, business, or related field
  • A Lean professional with 10+ years of continuous improvement experience in a process manufacturing environment following a formal management systems approach
  • Experience in a global manufacturing organization is desired
  • Experience in the Diagnostics and Medical Devices industry is desired
