Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to grants and contract functions of assigned department’s internal and external customer service, staffing and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) proposals, applications, compliance, contract negotiation, budgeting and disbursement, and monitoring and evaluation. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates the regular collection of information and metrics related to the contracting and sponsored project management process, including preparing and submitting reports, analyzing and preparing date of work performed, compile reports, and other tracking and reporting tasks as identified.
- Ensures competency of staff, determines departmental training needs, develops and presents educational programs and training as needed, mentors, coaches and oversees ongoing staff performance management.
- Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department’s continuous quality improvement program.
- May perform responsibilities as a Grants and Contracts Officer IV.
- Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
- Involved in hiring decisions for assigned unit and acts as a direct supervisor to staff.
- Participates in University-wide committees to establish customer service standards and administrative plans and policies.
- Forecasts, develops and implements policies and procedures in the areas of customer service, staff management and budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies.
- Consistently works on highly complex problems requiring independent action and decision making. Must determine best course of action to resolve problems and frequently makes recommendations for improvement.
