The team you will be a part of

The Organization/Talent Development team conducts or facilitates general and specific training programs for organization employees. Monitors employee development and training programs, assesses needs and results, develops new programs and modifies existing programs. Consults on employee development, performance, management utilization, personal career development, job enrichment and succession planning areas.


This role in summary

We are offering a career-making leadership role for a seasoned assessment specialist to develop and drive Whirlpool’s multi-year assessment strategy, including defining our assessment approach, selecting assessment tools/vendors, architecting the change/communication approach, and establishing measures and metrics to accurately assess impact.



Reporting directly to our VP, Organization & Talent, your responsibilities will include:

  • Further develop Whirlpool’s leadership potential assessment, including leading and improving the annual talent assessment process
  • Establish and lead Whirlpool’s assessment initiatives, with a specific near-term focus on pre-hire assessments (professional and executive levels) and potential assessments
  • Manage, assess and continue to drive improvements to Whirlpool’s recently redesigned 360-degree development survey
  • Serve as a credible advisor to business leaders and HR partners on assessment practices to achieve business objectives and on the use of assessment tools and interpretation of results
  • Build capacity in colleagues to understand and apply assessment insights for hiring, on-boarding, and development
  • Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to lead the design and implementation of global pre-hire assessment approach for our Director and above population, including executive-level candidates
  • Lead the development and implementation of Whirlpool’s multi-year talent assessment strategy across the full talent lifecycle (pre-hire, growth potential, skills development, etc.)
  • Interpret assessment results and provide guidance for hiring, onboarding, and development recommendations to senior executives and hiring managers
  • Conduct needs analyses and develop and analyze data using statistical methods to evaluate the outcomes and effectiveness of assessment initiatives


Minimum requirements

  • Ability to translate assessment findings into practical solutions with real business impact
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders across all levels of the organization and understand the needs of the business
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, matrixed global organization
  • Master’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (Ph.D. Preferred)
  • Experience developing relationships with and managing external vendors
  • Project Management experience with the ability to conceptualize and drive global projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 5 or more years of experience with specific subject matter expertise in developing and implementing effective talent assessment initiatives
  • Ability to interpret data using statistical methods and conducting validation analysis


This position serves leaders in our Benton Harbor, MI headquarters, and requires frequent and regular on-site time. We strongly prefer candidates who live within a commutable distance to Benton Harbor/St. Joseph or are willing to relocate to the area. Relocation assistance is available.
