LOB Specific Description:

Within Document Workflow Operations, Statements & Quality Assurance (SQAD) is responsible for the production of the Merrill month-end brokerage statement, as well as ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the data reported. Regulatory Mailings Services (RMS) is responsible for the production of the Merrill trade confirmations, prospectuses and digital delivery.

The Sr. Business Control Specialist will assist with managing the risk and control environment for both SQAD and RMS teams through development of new self-identified audit issues (SIAI), management of existing SIAIs, and ensuring appropriate remediation, evidence and closure of SIAIs for the organization. In addition, the role will assist with ensuring appropriate control routines are in place, work with teams to document process flows, identify gaps, document action plans and partner with teams to implement, all in an effort to drive a strong risk and control environment.

Functional job title is RMS risk lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documentation of process flows, controls, gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Manage interactions with Audit, Legal, Compliance & Risk partners
  • End to end management of SIAIs – documentation of issues, tactical action plans, assist with and oversee remediation, ensure evidence supports requirements and manage successful closure of issues on time
  • Assist with other risk related work as needed to support the organization
  • Ensure appropriate communications around the SIAI, including coordinating meetings, sending meeting minutes, follow up, communicating expectations, and escalating when appropriate
  • Drive risk reviews around policies, procedures, standards, laws, rules & regulation compliance
  • Create & maintain Business Contingency Plans

Required Skills: (Must have these skills to be minimally qualified)

  • Team player who is self-directed, analytical, detail oriented and thorough
  • Risk mindset and strong understanding and experience with the Enterprise’s Risk Framework
  • Proficient with MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deliverables
  • Experience with audit issue documentation and remediation (SIAI, AIAI, RIAI)
  • Prior risk or project management experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • College degree preferred
  • Understanding of rules and regulations, policies and standards

Enterprise Role Overview:

Provide analytical support in executing internal control discipline and operational excellence within a LOB/ECF. Gather and organize data in order to monitor and test the effectiveness of key controls and status of mitigation and action plans. Prepare documentation for the tracking, monitoring, and escalation of risk related issues to management. Acts as an ambassador of the risk culture. Incumbents typically have over 5+ years of risk management and/or LOB/ECF experience. May manage staff.
