Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant, LightDeck is responsible for supporting the company’s financial record-keeping and reporting requirements and ensuring compliance with US GAAP, corporate policies and procedures and common ethical practices for Heska's subsidiary, LightDeck Diagnostics. This position will work closely with other members of the Finance and Accounting team to drive company and departmental success while enhancing their own personal career development. Heska is a fast-paced environment, and the job will require a strong work ethic, constant attention to detail and deadlines and the ability to learn quickly. A positive attitude will be constantly required while leading the success of the team by example.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Accounting:
  • Audit cycle count adjustments on weekly basis. Review ABC categories at quarterly basis
  • Investigate Monthly Variances Material, Labor and Overhead to ensure accurate product costing
  • Prepares accounting research for existing and new transactions and understands or is able to learn new accounting guidance independently; guidance may be specific to US GAAP or other generally accepted accounting principles
  • Assists in resolution of any accounting, internal control, and audit issues as well as assembly and review of working papers
  • Determine Standard Costs for new materials and for the annual Inventory Revaluation. Perform annual Inventory Revaluation
  • Responsible for one or more accounting processes – general ledger, intercompany transactions, leases (lessee and lessor), consolidations, accruals, inventory, fixed assets, depreciation and amortization, reserves, and allowances
  • Works with auditors to provide documentation and support for accounting transactions, balances, and internal controls
  • Review BOM’s and Routings for accuracy and completeness. Validate lot size and Assembly Scrap %’s. Update and make changes if necessary
  • Executes monthly and quarterly accounting close procedures including reconciliations, journal entries and financial analysis
Financial Reporting:
  • Coordinates internal and external reporting and improves timeliness and accuracy of financial closing and reporting in addition to streamlining audit efforts
  • Assists and/or leads the preparation of daily, monthly, and quarterly reports to internal and external stakeholders and ensures high quality of work in all report distributions
Other duties as assigned:
  • Assists others in the Accounting and Finance Department as needed
  • Provides support during special projects, system implementations and/or unique transactions
  • Delivers ad hoc reporting, sometimes with minimal structure or guidance provided
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Proven ability to function as part of a diverse accounting team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of GAAP
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and communicate them to management
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial statements and financial data
  • Ability to work independently, self-starter and problem solver
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with many personalities
  • Ability to multi-task and meet changing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Current exposure to a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced ability with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Consistently displays strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions clearly and efficiently
  • Experience in Standard Cost Accounting and Inventory Valuation

Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • NetSuite or other ERP experience preferred
  • Public accounting or previous public company experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CMA or CPA, or work towards either certification preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting related experience required
