The Registered Therapist V (Speech Language Pathologist/Audiologist) performs highly advanced (senior-level) therapeutic rehabilitation services in speech language pathology and/or audiology. Performs therapeutic rehabilitation work by planning and overseeing therapeutic activities, analyzing needs of clients, and outlining and executing programs to meet client needs. Assesses and documents progress of individual patient and/or patient groups. Work involves coordinating rehabilitation activities for patients within the program area and developing protocols in rehabilitation therapy services to include clinical speech therapy services and administering/directing an assigned speech therapy program. Maintains required departmental and hospital documentation and records. Assigns and/or supervises the work of others, as needed. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
The Speech Language Pathologist determines communication potential and provides remediation for a wide range of individuals with communication deficits, swallowing and dysphagia challenges, and evaluates and provides augmentative communication devices and strategies. Develops, implements and oversees
therapeutic rehabilitative programs and provides open and regular communication with other departments to include provision of feedback, formal and informal, to recovery teams as prescribed by the treatment recovery plan, confidentiality, and HIPAA standards.
Oversees and coordinates quality assessment performance improvement activities as they relate to the rehabilitative programs implemented.
Administers and interprets assessments, develops and provides treatment for persons served. Assesses and analyzes patient’s needs as referred for 1 to 1 treatment and document using approved discipline specific assessment note process.
Responsible for documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) on patients’ progress in treatment to include physical, cognitive, social, and psycho-affective functioning in hospital/department approved records and formats.
Plans, develops, and administers schedules of activities for patients to include treatment protocols for specialty areas, to include preparation and submission of data for budgets and speech therapy supplies.
Provides clinical supervision and in-service training, as assigned, to therapeutic staff assistants, and others in conducting rehabilitation sessions.
Participates in recovery plan meetings to facilitate diagnosis and treatment planning. Provides, attends and/or participates in required departmental meetings, in-service training (develops), and performance improvement activities and tasks.
Trains, instructs and/or supervises the work of others in conducting rehabilitation activities specific to speech therapy recommendations, as needed. Trains staff and monitors programs for compliance and efficacy.
Reviews and analyzes progress reports, revises or develops treatment protocols based on outcomes, to include specialty areas.
Coordinates volunteer and/or internship programs and activities affiliated with the speech therapy program.
Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of therapy principles and techniques, and of psychology
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of rehabilitation therapy in working with the following patient populations: mental disorders, cognitively impaired (intellectual disability, Traumatic Brain Injury, learning disabled, Alzheimer’s, dementia’s, etc.), physically challenged, functionally impaired, and/or with infectious disease.
Knowledge of approved methods of facilitating, instructing, interacting, engaging, and supervising patients
Knowledge of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
Knowledge of health, safety, and infection control
Skills in clinical therapeutic evaluation and treatment
Skills in the application, maintenance, repair and use of tools, equipment, and materials
Skills in the operation of computers and applicable computer software
Skills in the evaluation, treatment planning, and documentation of patient’s progress
Ability to prescribe and construct adaptive or augmentative and communication devices.
Ability to follow instructions and base decisions on current policies and best practice.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to assign and supervise the work of others.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Current Licensure in Speech Language Pathology or Audiology
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited college or university program with major coursework in Speech Language Pathology or Audiology
Experience in providing individual speech language pathology or audiology treatment
Experience working with children, adolescents, adults, or senior adults in a psychiatric setting.

Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG list of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
