POSITION SUMMARY:

Successfully promote and support the mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas as guided by the Catholic Social Teachings by providing through a one-year placement for a Service Member in the ReCONNECT Kansas: Refugee Youth Mentoring Program at Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, EEO.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant CCNEK programming in order to supplement program offerings with other agency resources and maintain communication between program staff.
  • Maintain a caseload of mentors and mentees, check in with them monthly and follow up with concerns and resources to meet needs
  • Assist with recruitment and training of new mentors and mentees, including exploring alternative means of recruitment on both sides
  • Seek out and participate in trainings to increase relevant skills and stay updated on best practices in the refugee and workforce domains
  • Lead outreach presentations to interested individuals and groups about the program itself and the Workforce and Refugee Departments
  • Cultivate positive relationships with relevant organizations, social service providers, and other community partners.
  • Conduct program services in a culturally sensitive manner and maintain the confidentiality of all clients.
  • Assist with monthly and bi-annual reports as well as competitive and non-competitive grant applications
  • Orchestrate and implement civic, career and education oriented events based upon the interests of the mentioned caseload
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain detailed case notes of participants involved in programs, completing all necessary documentation to ensure compliance with funding requirements and the agency’s quality assurance standards.
Requirements:

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must complete VIRTUS training, background screening, drug testing, and any ongoing training as required
  • Catholic Charities promotes a diverse workforce.   • Must be able to type and know how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to ensure accuracy in participation tracking and case management reporting as required by state and federal funding agencies, match grant program, and local department of children and families
  • Must be willing to perform by the agency’s values: love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, self-control, and joy
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form in English and have excellent presentation skills for large and small groups
  • Establish highly effective relationships with clients, community agencies, volunteers, and other staff members
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that is very diverse, with a familiarity of refugee populations, and able to ensure confidentiality of all clients
  • Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities
  • Must possess a driver’s license, dependable transportation, current vehicle insurance, and a verified safe driving record
  • Minimum high school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience working with refugees, especially in US resettlement program, desired. Preferred experience working with youth and/or coordinating volunteers

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, accommodations provided when needed
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Must have physical ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Must have the physical ability and appropriate licensure for driving
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, standing, bending, and moving
  • Must have the physical ability to make visits to a variety of environments that may include walking on rough terrain and climbing stairs
  • Must have the physical ability to complete assignments in a variety of environments: homes of those we serve, extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, cleaning supplies, etc.
