Special Events and Development Coordinator

Junior Achievement of Memphis and Mid-South is seeking a Special Events and Development Coordinator. The person who leads in this space designs, coordinates, and launches all special events programming for the organization - from our iconic Bowl-a-Thon to finding the cutting edge of new future events. The coordinator is responsible for building relationships with those who participate in our special events and growing their connection to Junior Achievement, including through potentially adding them as donors. This position is about creating possibilities and keeping Junior Achievement a fun place to explore potential for engagement.

The Special Events and Development Coordinator reports directly to the Senior Development Manager and is a member of the Development team. Ideal candidates enjoy a good party and are imaginative in ways that enable them to use an event to educate newcomers to the work of Junior Achievement and to grow Junior Achievement’s brand in the community.

The Special Events and Development Coordinator also oversees all rental activities of the Wang Experiential Learning Center. In this capacity, the Coordinator will:

  • Manage all rental invoices and make sure that fees are collected.
  • Supervise all rentals or assure team coverage of rentals.
  • Maintain the security and welfare of the Wang Experiential Learning Center during all rentals.
  • Establish relationships with rental partners.
  • Manage rental calendar in partnership with the JA Staff.
  • Secure rental agreements with all clients.

Ideal candidates are self starters, highly organized, and have excellent communication skills both written and in the on-line world. We hope this candidate also loves to design things as well and has a good eye for visuals.

  • Ensures operations run smoothly on the day of the event.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop event budgets.
  • Negotiates contracts and secures any needed permits in partnership with the COO.
  • Protects all data and makes sure that all information is correctly deployed through SalesForce.
  • Serves as the key support person on the use of SalesForce in partnership with senior development staff.
  • Creates new special events that are on mission and will become iconic events for Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South.
  • Schedules and confirms location and arranges for food, beverages, equipment and other logistical requirements.
  • In partnership with the team and contractors, manages all social media and websites to make sure that they align with the organization’s mission and programs.
  • Coordinates special events that are meant to assist the organization in meeting its strategic goals.
  • Uses special events as a key “thank you” to those who support JA.
  • Promotes events, identifies invitees, sends invites, and tracks responses.

Experience and Education: Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years previous work experience.

Salary Range $45,000-$55,000 based on experience.
