Job Description
Role: Spanish/World Language Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Work Site: The Main Street Academy; College Park, GA
FLSA Status: Salary Exempt; Benefits Eligible
Job Summary:
The Main Street Academy (TMSA) is seeking an experienced K - 8th Grades Spanish Teacher. The Spanish Teacher is responsible to plan and model targeted instructional strategies. The Spanish Specialist provides instructional technology skills and possesses knowledge of curriculum materials, content standards, and assessments. The role will be responsible to understand and demonstrate the importance of effective communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
Required Qualifications:
  • Deep knowledge of philosophy, theory, and recent research in second-language acquisition
  • K-12 Spanish teacher Georgia Certification
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish fluently
  • Strong cultural awareness and knowledge of Spanish-speaking cultures throughout the world
  • B.A. in Spanish foreign language education or proper professional and academic preparation obtained from a well-designed teacher preparation program with courses in second-language acquisition and/or foreign language instruction in Spanish
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of students
Certification/Licensure
  • Must hold a Georgia certificate in applicable field verifiable by the GaPSC or Permit
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Identify and select appropriate mathematics instructional materials aligned to content standards and assists classroom teachers in doing the same
  • Work effectively with small groups of struggling math students at all levels
  • Plan and implement student instruction and assessment in mathematics to achieve math curriculum objectives
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Principal
  • Accurately complete student data assessment analysis and provide informative reports
  • Analyze formal and informal data on student achievement in mathematics in order to inform instructional planning
  • Implement relevant information from research and professional literature on best practices in math instruction
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Communicate knowledge of the Spanish language and cultures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Encourage students to develop oral and literacy language skills appropriate to age and abilities by consistent modeling
  • Participate in curriculum development
  • Be knowledgeable in the core processes, skills, and content of all curriculum areas
  • Proficient use of the computer
  • Demonstrate positive attitudes toward Spanish-speaking cultures and those who speak Spanish
  • Introduce and strengthen language with supporting materials in Spanish to develop a high level of proficiency in the foreign language
  • Use a range of teaching strategies and instructional practices
