Job Description

In this role, you will work on a variety of applied research projects in support of new technology development and innovation. The type of work will be programming centric with many opportunities for developing and applying other skills. As a member of a diverse research and engineering (R&E) team, you will have many opportunities to work with, be mentored by, and mentor others while learning and applying the Apogee’s agile R&E process.

The role is full-time, located in our Arlington, VA office. Must be a US Citizen to apply.

At Apogee Research, you will:

  • Participate in all aspects of the software life cycle, from brainstorming and software and system design through testing and delivery
  • Collaborate with small teams of 4-8 technical people to develop novel technologies and transition them for operational use
  • Jump into the deep end of the pool and learn something new every day
  • Work for US Government R&D customers for agencies such as DARPA
  • Contribute to the transition of R&D onto operational platforms in support of the DoD
  • Work with a world-class team of researchers and developers to tackle problems considered too difficult or too risky for commercial markets

Position Responsibilities:

  • Creating new and novel solutions for current problems while continually pursuing the hard problems
  • Assisting with transfers of new technologies into other development stages and other groups of the company
  • Actively identifying, exploring, researching, and developing new technologies in a broad range of technology focus areas such as security communications, and computing
  • Building proof-of-concepts and prototypes for new ideas and technologies
  • Developing, preparing, and maintaining documentation (Readme files, user guides, architecture and flow diagrams, etc.) in support of work

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance; therefore, any applicant MUST BE A US CITIZEN.
  • Working experience with Linux/UNIX Operating Systems
  • Strong demonstrable coding skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • High proficiency in a language such as C++ or Java
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience with a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of computer and network security.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in research team environments
  • Experience doing researched based software engineering development work
  • Experience with research methodologies
