API Engineer, The Pinterest Platform

Do you have experience building or working with externally accessible APIs at scale? Are you interested in applying your experience to a pioneering opportunity within Pinterest?

We’re building the Pinterest Developer Platform - a suite of productized, scaled Pinterest capabilities that will empower a thriving community of Partners to build experiences upon Pinterest. We’re planning for this Partner community to ultimately grow to tens of thousands of apps and materially impact Pinterest’s business. Most importantly, our work will enable our Pinners to discover and act upon more inspiring content than ever before - both within Pinterest Apps and within other products.

Our multidisciplinary team (Engineering, Product Management, Design, Business Development, and more) is working together to create:

• New API “products” that enable Partners to build upon Pinterest in new ways
• A new developers.pinterest.com “customer journey” for Partner app developers
• A new externally accessible RESTful API
• New administrative tools to enable us to manage the platform at scale

What You’ll Do

• Write high-quality, performant Python code that empowers engineers at Partner companies, and support our peer teams throughout the company doing the same
• Work with engineering peers to architect Pinterest’s externally accessible API endpoints, and then build them
• Identify, prioritize, and resolve the biggest problems facing our external API consumers and our internal API developers
• Design and build tools and capabilities to enable efficient operation and administration of the API

What We’re Looking For

• You enjoy thinking about APIs as a “product” for an audience at scale
• Experience with Python, OpenAPI, and OAuth
• Experience building API endpoints between consumer clients and servers and/or writing API client code to call APIs
• You enjoy solving complex technical product issues with multiple disciplines across multiple teams
• You enjoy building tools and capabilities that empower yourself and others
• You thrive in startup or startup-within-a-larger-company environments, where you have the opportunity to move quickly, create something new, and have a major impact
