What We’re Looking For:


Jumpstart your engineering career with a dynamic and fast-paced team! Join Iridium's Test Automation Engineering team as an Engineer I! In this role you will contribute to the research, development, testing, and sustaining engineering activities of Iridium services and ground communications infrastructure. As a member of our team, you will be immersed in a software agile development/test cycle, writing and reviewing code while assisting with automation development, integrating new products, and troubleshooting on multiple interdisciplinary projects. You’ll be successful in this role if you have a keen desire to learn and a passion for software development and test automation engineering. What You’ll Do
  • Data transformation and visualization
  • Testcase driver creation based on system requirements
  • Help your team with maintaining configuration management of the test automation software and scripts
  • Participate in integrating, testing, maintaining, and operating gateway hardware, lab hardware, and software systems along with cloud-based systems and services
  • Assist in decomposing requirements into verifiable test objectives
  • Work with industry standard tools and software such as Elasticsearch/Logstash/Kibana, Amazon Web Services, CI/CD DevOps pipelines, containers and more.
  • Transceiver communications
  • Participate in an Agile software team to collaborate with team members on a variety of tasks including:
  • Assist in recreating and isolating reported software and/or hardware defects using test infrastructure and document non-compliances
  • Work collaboratively with software, hardware, and system development engineers to ensure high product quality.
  • Participate in maintaining and executing test automation for feature, defect and regression testing
  • Virtualization
  • Research and assist with implementing hardware upgrades of ground infrastructure and test systems
  • Generate and present reports based on test execution and analysis
  • API definition and implementation

What You’ll Need to Succeed:


  • A drive to work in test automation and systems development
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively
  • Basic knowledge of featured services such as storage, compute services, containers, and virtual servers
  • An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others
  • An interest in providing high-quality, cost-effective system integration, test, and support services
  • General experience and/or knowledge of various software languages including Python, C, C++, C#, Java, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar field.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you
  • A motivation to achieve outcomes and results
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with guidance for accuracy and quality
  • Basic knowledge of Cloud Computing Services and Cloud Infrastructure


Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
  • Agile software development process
  • Experience with Python3
  • Machine virtualization, specifically VMware Desktop and ESXi
  • Databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and/or SQL Server
  • Software management tools (JIRA and/or Bamboo) Integrated Development Environment (PyCharm, Spyder, Pydev, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Software Engineering concepts and practices
  • Familiarity with distributed version control systems such as git
  • Previous exposure via college courses or internship to the following skills are a plus:


We’ll Also Need You To


  • Be able to travel up to 15 days annually
  • Be on-call to support operational issues
  • Be a U.S. citizen (due to ITAR restrictions)


Work Environment


This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
