Job Description

The Software department provides Software Engineering expertise for all phases of product development, from design through production. Applies expertise in Software Engineering in various aspects of the development of electronic components for aerospace applications. For Engineering, the Software Engineer 2 provides this expertise to development and sustaining projects: addressing coding, analysis, and testing.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Software Engineering design including:
o Embedded code design for Research and Development
o Structured code for embedded micro controllers
o Related document creation and formatting including technical specifications
o Interfacing through protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, others as needed by Meggitt
o Other related aspects in the creation of titled “Embedded Code”
o Design and research of software coding
o Design and analysis tasks for software applications
o Develop and maintain company and customer required documentation
o Application code generation for test fixtures and/or customer laptop use
o Engineering Change Orders
o Building of prototype code
o Perform software verification testing
o Developing software engineering reports, analyses, support drafting test equipment drawings
o Technical reports
o Other Software Design related Output items
  • Design to software requirements
  • Communicates complex technical information to others in a clear and effective manner
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Development Engineering in terms of design reviews and associated risk management activities
  • Solves technical problems using a combination of experience, judgment, and precedents
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
  • Outside interface for Meggitt electrical technology and customer requirements as well as providing subject matter expertise
  • Prepares a range of reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Uses discretion and independent judgment when evaluating courses of action; makes decisions after considering various options
  • Other responsibilities as assigned
  • Keep current with state of the art techniques for software coding and processes as may be required by Meggitt

Job Specifications

Education: Bachelor degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science; (Master degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science; degrees in other related engineering fields are acceptable for this level of experience)

Years' Experience: 4 years of relevant experience

Skills:

  • Able to manage multiple, concurrent priorities
  • Self-motivated
  • Proficient in coding, preferably C or C++, within an IDE such as MS Visual C
  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
  • Proficient organizational skills and the ability to prioritize according to urgency while remaining flexible to changing situations
  • Ability to apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent communicator – can sell concepts to people at all levels in the organization, including engineers.
  • Knowledge of micro controller coding including 6805, 6811, 6812 assembly language
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering
  • Proficient with compilers (including Bytecraft C, Cosmic C, Borland Make)
  • Ability to explain a range of technical information
  • Assets: Knowledge of DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, ARP
