Software Engineer – UI/Web Applications - Ann Arbor, MI

The NETSCOUT Security R & D organization is seeking software engineers with excellent technical and communication skills to join its security product engineering team. We recruit highly motivated creative thinkers to work in small teams with other talented software engineers, technical writers, and software quality assurance engineers in our high-energy, fast-paced environment.

As a member of our engineering team, you will be working with home-grown and third-party systems intended to take in high volumes of data efficiently and make it available in a variety of presentations for network and security customers. Through our Agile process, you will develop solutions that visualize network traffic and security threats in a variety of ways, implement new workflows that support different use cases, and extend the RESTful API that powers both the user interface and customer developed solutions. We have a strong culture of performing peer reviews of work, both with designs and code implementations, so collaboration skills are key.

Responsibilities

• Drive ideation around alternative visualization, workflow, and modern design trends
• Engage with User Experience Designer to solidify workflows and designs
• Engage with User Experience Researcher to define and review results of customer feedback sessions
• Develop RESTful APIs as a foundation for new features and to support customer developed solutions
• Leverage product and development knowledge to support feature design and development within a scrum team
• Deliver best-in-class software solutions for multiple products

Required Skillset

• A driving sense of craftsmanship, quality, and ownership
• Experience with JavaScript-based client-side web frameworks like React or angular.js and/or server-side scripting language such as PHP, Python, or Ruby
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to take on additional tasks as assigned
• Ability to work in small teams and cross-team to solve complex problems
• Strong knowledge of standards-based development with HTML5, CSS3, Ajax, JavaScript
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong knowledge of best practices and modern web design trends

Desired Experience

• Experience working in an Agile or Lean environment
• Familiarity with user-centered design, usability heuristics, HCI literature
• Experience writing shell scripts
• Experience with creating data visualizations using JavaScript graphing libraries such as React-Vis or d3
• Understanding of application layer network protocols
• Experience writing regular expressions
• Experience writing unit tests and automated functional tests
• Familiarity with web technologies such as ECMAScript 6, WebSockets
• Experience with Material UI or another React UI framework
• Experience in a Unix-based LAMP environment

Experience

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
• 3 or more years of experience in software design, development, and implementation
