Salary Placement and Work Hours: This is a 12-month position, placed on the C3 Salary Schedule with a pay range of $50,570 to $94,865, depending upon degree and applicable work experience, at the President's discretion. The work week is typically Monday through Friday, with some weekend work required at times. Hours worked will be a minimum of 40 per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: The primary functions of the Softball Coach are to provide instruction, guidance, and supervision to the NACC women’s softball team; to coordinate the activities of the NACC softball program; and to stay current on and maintain college compliance with all Title IX, National Junior College Athletic Association, Alabama Community College System, and Department of Education regulations regarding softball programs. In addition, this position must comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate with other softball coaches and the athletic director to schedule games
  • Maintain accurate records and compile reports as requested
  • Maintain current knowledge on and in compliance with all Title IX, National Junior College Athletic Association, Alabama Community College System, and Department of Education regulations regarding sports programs
  • Conduct training and practices as sanctioned by NJCAA
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members
  • Instruct student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of softball
  • Coordinate and schedule the annual schedule of softball practices and games
  • Participate in required employee training
  • Promote the NACC softball program at community, college, and fundraising events
  • Work with the Title IX Coordinator to ensure that all student-athletes are trained annually regarding important Clery Act and Title IX topics
  • Have knowledge of and commitment to the philosophy and objectives of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College
  • Ensure effective maintenance of physical resources and monitor the inventory of uniforms, supplies, and equipment for the NACC softball program
  • Conduct physical conditioning sessions and practices for student-athletes
  • Serve as liaison between NACC and local high school softball programs
  • Supervise student-athletes at practices, at all softball games, and while attending college, ACCS, and NJCAA events
  • Represent the College and its philosophy to prospective students and to others in the community
  • Serve on committees or panels as needed by NJCAA or ACCC athletic conference
  • Maintain program goals that help fulfill the NACC mission and directive goals
  • Coordinate the annual schedule of softball practices and games
  • Evaluate, recruit, and recommend student-athletes for scholarships
  • Perform any additional duties that may be assigned by the President or supervisor, including, but not limited to, other duties to direct athletic programs
  • Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress and keep them on track for eligibility and graduation
  • Coordinate the arrangements for all softball games, including the arrangement of officials; team travel accommodations and transportation; assistance with visiting team accommodations; and refreshments and/or meals as needed
  • Communicate regularly with immediate supervisor and the President regarding softball team activities and business
  • Work with the athletic director to develop an annual budget for the NACC softball program

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with student-athletes, faculty, staff, and community members
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and management to the athletic programs and student-athletes
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations as they relate to ACCS and NJCAA events
  • Ability to successfully manage additional staff
  • Knowledge of established policies and procedures of the college
  • Ability to work day or evening hours as required by the program, which may include travel, overnight stays, and weekend duties
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college
  • Possess excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to assist students, faculty, staff, and community members, including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively coordinate travel arrangements
  • Ability to evaluate physical performance related to the inter-collegiate softball program as well as other sports programs
  • Ability to motivate student-athletes to perform to the best of their abilities
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrated skill in softball-related instruction is required
  • Associate degree (or equivalent hours) from a regionally accredited institution is required; Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred
PREFERED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience serving as a direct supervisor for an athletic program
  • Experience developing an annual budget for sports programs
  • Ability to coordinate with other coaches to schedule games, meets, etc. as needed
  • Experience in maintaining physical resources and monitoring inventory of uniforms, supplies, and equipment for all athletic programs
  • Experience promoting athletic programs at community events, and fundraising events
