Description

Responsible for leading and managing the men’s golf program at Hobart College. This is a part-time position, and the duties include coaching and mentoring student-athletes as well as the overall management of a competitive Division III golf program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Effectively recruit student-athletes within the philosophy of the Colleges.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development.
  • Organize and direct home contests.
  • Adhere to all NCAA, Liberty League, department and institutional rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a sincere interest in the personal, academic, and athletic progress of student-athletes.
  • Teach and reinforce the rules of the sport.
  • Demonstrate knowledge for the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.
  • Demonstrate ethical leadership and professional behavior when coaching and mentoring student-athletes.
  • Transport team to and from site of competition.
  • Conduct practice sessions to improve players’ skill execution.
  • Establish and enforce behavioral expectations of student-athletes.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Effectively manage the sport budget, as established by the director of athletics.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Compliance to ensure compliance with all NCAA rules.
  • Demonstrate competency in sport skill instruction, motivation, and the ability to conduct practice sessions.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.

Other Information:

This is a part-time, approximately 5 months (fall and spring seasons), non-benefits-eligible, administrative position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to manage a budget.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • A minimum of three years of coaching and/or teaching experience required.
  • Competence with technology resources is vital to succeed in the position (e.g., Microsoft Office, FlightScope, contact management systems).
  • Proven knowledge of the sport of golf, skill instruction and the rules of golf.
