Position Summary

Provides psychosocial interventions, screenings for emotional well-being and mental health, position plans, organizes and implements social work services for perinatal patients with opiate use disorder.

The Department of Psychiatry and the Perinatal Behavioral Health Service is particularly interested in and values candidates who have experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds, along with a demonstrated commitment to cultural competence and the delivery of culturally responsive health care. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answers inquiries from patients/families about community resources.
  • Screens, using standardized screening tools, for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse and trauma history.
  • Works collaboratively on a diverse and multidisciplinary team of social workers, therapists, nurses, OBGYNs, psychiatrists, community partners and patients to provide holistic, patient-centered emotional support and mental health care.
  • Facilitates referrals and community resources for patients/families.
  • Provides emotional support and brief solutions-focused psychotherapy services or other novel interventions for patients with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and other co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Prepares psychosocial reports and maintains necessary records in electronic health records systems.
  • Schedules patient appointments and provides telephone follow-up.
  • Provides psychoeducation on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, trauma disorders, substance use disorders, and other co-occurring mental health conditions for pregnant and postpartum people on the Barnes and Children’s campuses.
  • Tracks patient participation and outcomes for grant-related services tied to this program.

Other Functions

  • Participates in job functions as part of the Perinatal Behavioral Health Service (e.g. staff development, program development, staff meetings, supervision, clinical case discussions, etc.).
  • Attends required certification trainings as required by licensure and program needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by team lead and program supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • PC based computer system knowledge.
  • Ability to work with patients from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to provide care in flexible, fast-paced settings.
  • Experience working in a hospital setting is beneficial.
  • Ability to operate from a humanistic and holistic perspective on working with perinatal people with emotional distress, trauma histories, and mental health conditions.
  • Strong interactive communication skills to aid in the ability to work cooperatively and creatively with patients and in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Comfortable providing services both on-site in a hospital setting as well as virtually via telehealth.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work.
  • REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Currently a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on location. Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range

$55,000.00 - $85,300.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
