Job Description

This recruitment will establish an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies.

The Department of Health and Human Services, Services to End and Prevent Homelessness Division (SEPH) is recruiting for a Social Worker I/II position.

SEPH's goal is to make homelessness brief, rare and one-time only. Housing Stabilization Services, a program within SEPH, provides supportive services and financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing a housing/utility emergency to prevent homelessness and stabilize housing. Social Worker I/II positions may carry out Intake/Assessment or Prevention Case Management Activities.

Positions providing Intake/Assessment will assess individuals and families experiencing a housing and/or utility emergency to identify needs to prevent homelessness; empower families experiencing homelessness to quickly identify permanent housing solutions; develop person-centered service plans; provide short-term management to stabilize households; make recommendations for emergency financial assistance; and conduct home visits as needed.

Positions providing Prevention Case Management will assess individuals and families at high risk for homelessness; develop person-centered service plans; provide ongoing case management to help stabilize households; make recommendations for emergency financial assistance; regularly conduct home and community visits; and act as back-up Intake/Assessment Social Worker.

Bilingual applicants in the Spanish, Amharic, or French are encouraged to apply. If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, he/she will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication, reading comprehension, and interpreting skills. For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination requiring translating text from Spanish/Amharic/French to English and vice versa.

The selected candidate must be available to work extended hours coverage (currently Tues from 10:30am-7pm) on a rotating basis. Employees will need to operate a motor vehicle.

Selected candidates are required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical exam, alcohol and drug screening, and a criminal background check.

The salary information referenced below is for a Social Worker II position. These positions may be under filled at the Social Worker I , (Grade 21 Salary: $57,455 - $93,895)

Minimum Qualifications

Social Worker I

Education: Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Experience: None

Equivalency: See Maryland Board requirements.

License : Must be licensed as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW), or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.

Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence when required for job-related duties.

Social Worker II

Education: Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Experience: One (1) year of professional experience rendering social work services.

Equivalency: See Maryland Board requirements.

License : Must be licensed as a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW), or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.

Preferred Criteria

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas:
