Job Description
This position serves as a Social Media Specialist in the Marketing and Communications department. The Social Media Specialist is responsible for contributing to the Aquarium's day-to-day social media activity. This person is also responsible for creating marketing-based and mission-related content for the Aquarium's social media platforms and helping to collect and analyze performance data.


SCHEDULE


This is a full-time, regular, hybrid position offering a comprehensive benefits package. The schedule is 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday with the flexibility needed to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary


Essential Functions


  • Collaborate with members of the marketing department to generate new content ideas that align with and expand on the Aquarium's mission.
  • Create and maintain a library of social media posts.
  • Research emerging social media platforms and trends to find new ways to reach our audience.
  • Transform complex subject matter into short, compelling copy and visual content for both scientific and lay audiences.
  • Support the Manager of Social Media Strategy in providing on-call support for social media needs in urgent situations.
  • Create, publish, and organize compelling and informative social media content for the social media content calendar.
  • Help update the website and post content in WordPress as needed.
  • Support management of all of the Aquarium's social media accounts to maximize engagement and growth:
  • Cultivate relationships with key staff to enable open and frequent communication and the sharing of news and ideas.
  • Act as a project manager for long-term social media project requests submitted to the department.
  • Using data analytic tools, monitor, audit, categorize, and report on our social media efforts on a monthly basis.
  • Grow audiences and user engagement on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other emerging social media channels and online platforms.
  • Monitor, listen, and promptly respond to users.


Qualifications


Minimum Training and Experience


  • 3+ years of experience working in an organization creating and publishing content on a variety of social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) and marketing-related long and short copy experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field.
  • Experience in a science and/or conservation organization is preferred.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities


  • Proven creative and innovative social media approaches
  • A cover letter is required for this position.
  • Superior interpersonal, organization, time management, and teamwork sills
  • Excellent knowledge of social media channels and the nuances for managing each platform
  • Commitment to the Aquarium's mission and ocean conservation
  • Experience with WordPress, Sprout Social, AirTable, and Adobe Creative Cloud preferred
  • Strong understanding of digital content and social engagement best practices and industry standards
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience with data analytics to drive social media strategy
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
