POSITION SUMMARY:

A sports official is responsible for keeping the game flowing, following the rules, encouraging players (youth), problem solving, and ensuring fun is had throughout. Officials Have the opportunity to be of service to the community by providing guidance and leadership. The positive impact that officials can have on the lives of young people is an intangible reward impossible to value.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

• Assess the conditions of the fields to ensure safety for players.
• Meet with coaches prior to the start of the games to ensure understanding of any rules variations that might be in effect.
• Show enthusiasm by hustling, intently watching the game and play(s), enforcing the rules, fulling understanding the rules and responsibilities.
• Ensure that games begin and end at scheduled times.
• Serve as a positive role model to players, parents, coaches, and fellow officials by enforcing all rules, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and officiating consistently with the Watertown Family YMCA standards.
• To arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of games.
• Certification / Previous certification

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience in officiating sports is a plus
• Officials are required to confirm with supervisor or director at least 24 hours in advance
• Must be committed, dependable and passionate about officiating sports
• Must be of sound mind and good character
