Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity within our operations organization to lead the global transportation function. The Senior Vice President of Transportation is responsible for leading and delivering the strategic vision of the transportation function across the enterprise, for all modes of transportation including a large truck fleet as well as rail, barge, and vessel at a domestic and international level.
Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage freight spend and optimize our current transportation management system practices.
  • Provide transformational leadership and direction to the company’s transportation function. Must be a strong champion of change with ability to influence at all levels and inspire confidence among all team members including senior leaders.
  • Build strong partnerships and establish credibility with the supply-chain/distribution teams at large as well as the broader the internal team. Serve as champion for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Standardize and continuously improve transportation-related operating processes and practices across defined operating regions to improve productivity, quality and reliability of operating performance and enables improved economies of scale.
  • Develop and deploy new system capabilities, service offerings, business continuity and risk mitigation strategies for the business.
  • Ensure the transportation strategy is effectively aligned with the business, end-to-end supply chain and strategic initiatives of the organization.
  • Foster strong relationships with external freight providers and partners.
  • Leadership and centralization of all fleet, 3rd party truck sourcing, and dispatching activities while championing a culture of safety.
  • Provide timely and transparent insights on freight markets, freight supplier strategies and industry trends to leaders and decision makers across the enterprise.
  • Deliver operational excellence and optimization with the right cost management and pricing strategy to maximize the benefits for internal and external CHS stakeholders.
  • Deliver company-wide operational and financial improvements to inbound, in-network product transfers and final mile deliveries to the customer.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
  • Demonstrated success in demand management, strong financial understanding, highly analytical, able to communicate through demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10-years of experience leading a large global transportation function or leading a commodity and risk management function at a senior leader or executive leader level.
  • Ability to influence at all levels in the organization, ability to lead change, meet deadlines and create confidence amongst senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated asset management strategy execution including fleet right sizing, daily usage patterns, scheduling and route optimization.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with data analytics to drive meaningful decisions with significant impact.
  • Extensive experience in logistics process design and implementation.
Additional Qualifications
  • 20+ years of experience leading at a senior leader or executive leader level.
  • Experience leading transportation in a commodity and risk management in an agriculture industry.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in agricultural commodity trading, risk management, logistics and execution and strong understanding of how this relates to the various modes of transportation including truck, barge, rail & vessel.
