Job Description
SPANG is currently seeking a Senior Staff Accountant for a leading property insurance company based in Tampa, Florida, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The company specializes in delivering high-quality property insurance and competitive rates to homeowners in the Gulf Coast states.


Responsibilities:


  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, as well as the corresponding reporting
  • Drive process improvement and cross-functional initiatives
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of insurance industry processes and NAIC statutory financial standards
  • Record and process accounting entries for insurance operations
  • Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and/or macros, attention to detail, and quantitative skills are required
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory and NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) filings
  • Assist in internal and external audit processes
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for executive review
  • Efficiently handle various state and/or regulatory data requests
  • Prepare monthly general account reconciliations
  • Accurately produce excess and risk line reports


Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in personal lines accounting in the property and casualty insurance industry
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to complete administrative tasks within established deadlines
  • Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles
  • Additional skills in EAS, Biznet, Sungard, Wings/Sovos, TCP are a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Knowledge of general ledger or accounts payable systems
