North Canberra Hospital, Bruce is a 256 bed public hospital providing acute and sub-acute services, with our Emergency Department receiving around 55 thousand presentations per year.
The Canberra Hospital is a 600+ bed tertiary trauma and referral hospital providing services to the ACT and south eastern New South Wales region of Australia. It is the principal teaching hospital of the Australian National University (ANU) Graduate Medical Program.
The Senior Resident Medical officer is a hospital specific Medical officer training in adult internal medicine, and Hospital in the Home (HITH) ambulatory care service. We are seeking a Resident Medical Officer who is unaccredited and interested in pursuing a career in general medicine, or trainees in remote and rural medicine who wish to further their exposure in adult internal medicine.Officers undertake duties in the care and treatment of patients in various departments.
DUTIES
  • Ensure diagnosis / problem / issue lists are kept up to date and entered into My Digital Health Record prior to transfer
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
  • Participate in meetings and education sessions as scheduled
  • Maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policy and requirements in a timely fashion, including instituting and maintaining discharge summaries
  • Help resuscitate, assess and admit acutely sick medical or surgical patients under the supervision of a registrar or consultant.
  • Participate in the daily multidisciplinary meeting where relevant.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
  • Relevant qualifications and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working professionally in adult internal medicine. Experience in adult emergency medicine is also desired
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record . Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful applicant will need to be for weekend and after-hours work.
Desirable
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework , Clinical Governance Framework , Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks .
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for medical professionals.
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
