Job Description

Summary of Primary Function

As a member of the BSMH Legal Network, the Paralegal, working directly with labor and employment attorneys and human resources professionals, performs a variety of the team’s essential duties including, but not limited to management of assigned legal matters for a specific market, support service or entity. This individual has effective organizational, planning, problem solving, multitasking, technology, analytical, judgment, and administrative skills and supports multiple individuals. This position will produce work of a legal nature, focusing on immigration requirements, utilizing knowledge and expertise regarding the legal system and substantive and procedural law and the ethical considerations of the legal profession. Interfaces with operational and/or support services leadership, consultants, vendors, and both internal and external clients.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate and monitor activities to triage work to appropriate person. Serve as point of contact for sponsorship-related questions with both leaders and human resources including communicating the cost of the process, developing personalized plans for sponsorship and communicate regarding immigration process or inability to sponsor, advising on green card questions and concerns.
  • Communicate with outside and internal counsel regarding change in employment status for sponsored associates and impact on associates.
  • Delivers education and training in response to specific business needs. Provide internal counsel and human resources with updates that impact immigration-related issues including I-9’s and international staffing.
  • Maintain immigration compliance files.
  • Maintain a repository of templates for various types of documents and contracts. Partner with human resources
  • Review appropriate correspondence queues, taking appropriate action and documenting the account accordingly.
  • Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing systems including Meditract and I-Manage.
  • Align physician immigration process and internal subject matter experts to immigration coordinators.
  • Partner with human resources on travel document requests.
  • Review application process to ensure no issues with sponsorship or prevailing wage matters prior to offers of employment. Partner with leaders and human resources to define minimum qualifications of candidates.
  • Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles.
  • Responsible for review and drafting of agreements, questionnaires, correspondence, memoranda, policies or other communications and immigration-related documents for assigned legal matters.
  • Investigate the facts, gather and arrange requested documents for attorney needs and provide summaries.
  • Monitor application process timelines with outside counsel.

Employment Qualifications

  • Licensing/Certification Preferred: Paralegal Certificate or Degree (*prior Paralegal experience may be substituted for education), Notary Public License
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree *, Specialty Major: Paralegal Studies or Degree in Related Field / Paralegal Certificate (*prior Paralegal experience may be substituted for education)
  • Required Minimum Education: Associate's Degree*, Specialty/Major: Paralegal Studies or Related Field (*prior Paralegal experience may be substituted for education)

  • Clear communicator – demonstrates excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and implement complicated material both orally and in writing.
