The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) works with members of the Enterprise Networks team and other colleagues to design, plan, implement, manage and support the corporate data center, disaster recovery, and wide area networks. This position also helps design, implement, manage, and support AWS and Azure hybrid networks

WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU


The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for all operational aspects of TNC’s network, including data center, disaster recovery, WAN/LAN, and AWS/Azure hybrid cloud. The SNE will maintain physical and virtual Cisco, Meraki and Palo Alto network and security devices, and assist with establishing, documenting, and implementing standards for routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.

The Senior Network Engineer regularly monitors, analyzes, and reports on performance metrics for data center, cloud, and wide area network components, and provides recommendations for enhancing the functionality, performance and/or cost-effectiveness of network technologies. This position helps develop network architecture solutions and standards by investigating and analyzing feasibility of system requirements, and by providing expertise and overall guidance to program offices, business units and Field IT for network systems solutions, often in collaboration with other IT colleagues. This role also serves as an escalated support resource for network issues and troubleshooting.

The SNE assists the Director of Enterprise Networks with special projects and in contract negotiations to evaluate and select solutions that advance or improve TNC’s network capabilities, security and/or availability. They utilize project management skills and related methodologies todeliver high-quality work products within agreed upon parameters. They develop training and documentation for other operations teams to use in supporting systems. The Senior Network Engineer will be required to work flexible hours occasionally to perform required maintenance and/or respond to emergency issues. The position must be able and willing to be physically present in the Arlington VA office periodically to perform upgrades and other work that requires hands-on presence

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Establish and follow change management processes
  • Maintain and provide support for physical and virtual Palo Alto firewalls and GlobalProtect VPN.
  • Determine requirements and specifications for existing and potential next-generation wide area network technologies and standards.
  • Provide engineering, maintenance support for corporate data centers, LAN, WAN and cloud networks, including design, implementation, and ongoing management/monitoring.
  • Utilize monitoring tools to troubleshoot network issues and report on KPIs and other performance metrics. Apply troubleshooting skills to identify, assess and resolve network related technical problems
  • Maintain a secure infrastructure using ACL, firewall, and other device security tools and network security best-practices
  • Develop and maintain technical drawings and system documentation. Develop training and support materials for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Use communication and collaboration tools effectively to work with team and to keep others informed.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 3 years technical support experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience implementing and managing cloud networks and security
  • One or more certifications in area of expertise: AWS and/or Azure Cloud Networking, Certified Cloud Architect, Cisco network administration, Palo Alto firewall administration
  • Experience managing Palo Alto physical and virtual firewalls
  • Experience in area such as network design and implementation, LAN, WAN interfacing, security, Internet protocols and TCP/IP and server and network infrastructure.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be effective working in a global environment
  • Excellent customer and vendor relationship skills
  • Security+ certification or equivalent training and experience in security best-practice
  • Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Team leadership skills and proven track record of successful solution delivery/implementation
  • Must demonstrate good written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting skills required, with an ability to understand client requirements and devise solutions
  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure
