Job Description
Who are we hiring?
Under the supervision of the Director of Purchasing – F&B, this position is responsible for the research, sourcing, evaluation, competitive bidding, purchasing and inventory management of a wide range of goods and services supporting Sphere Operations. Scope of Work includes: • Food (produce/fruits, meats, poultry, dry goods) & beverages (non-alcohol and alcohol) • Paper and plastic disposables • Cleaning & chemical supplies • Imprinted and custom-made containers • Custom souvenir food packaging items • Various maintenance and repair services The Senior Manager will support Sphere in development and execution of procurement strategies for these goods and services. The decisions made by the Senior Manager regarding purchasing and inventory levels have a direct impact on revenue generation and profit margins of operating departments and retail food business that generate revenue from use/re-sale of the products acquired at competitive costs. Works with user departments at Sphere to develop product specifications, pricing, and delivery schedules. Works with the vendors to establish and maintain good working relationships, delivery of high-quality service at competitive prices and terms. The unique operating conditions at Sphere (e.g., lack of storage space, challenging delivery logistics, heavy event load / product usage, uncertain demand, long lead times) require the Senior Manager to develop creative solutions to address purchasing and inventory requirements. Creative problem solving skills is key. As the principal deputy of the Director, the Senior Manager is also responsible for providing management coverage for the department’s entire range of responsibilities in the Director’s absence. Supports the administrative purchasing needs of several departments at Sphere.
What will you do?
  • Analyze bids for awards.
  • Initiate request for bids for standard and custom items for inventory, non-inventory, and capital items.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Generate system purchase orders and place orders with vendors.
  • Initiate RFQ (Request for Quotes) bidding process for standard goods and services.
  • Communicate with vendors and confirm prices and delivery dates.
  • Update pricing and vendor files on a regular basis in purchasing system.
  • Effectively manage inventory of food & beverage, food service paper, disposables, and cleaning supplies to balance stockout of key items versus excess inventory levels.
  • Support the organizational needs to drive sustainable purchasing strategies.
  • Monitor vendor performance and quality of products and workmanship of items delivered to Square Garden. Take appropriate corrective action as needed.
  • Assist various users in resolving questions with purchasing system.
  • Resolve invoice problems with vendors and A/P. Initiate corrected paperwork when needed.
  • Research new products and specifications and search for qualified vendors to supply these needs.
  • Lead and maintain the F&B Purchasing system, Eatec
  • Management, Training and Scheduling of team of Buyers

  • Strong management and development skills
  • Developer of talent
  • Advanced knowledge of process and procedures for imprinting paper and plastic products with inks, dyes and creative artwork. Knowledge of creative services process to develop artwork or design into finished product.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and sound decision making, often without complete information.
  • High proficiency with Automated Purchasing Systems especially Eatec, the system used by Madison Square Garden/Sphere, and with MS Excel.
  • Behavior consistent with MSG/Sphere values
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to obtain clear communication of needs from user community through a combination of diplomacy and precise requirements gathering. Able to translate user needs into technical requirements appropriate to the specific product / industry and convey requirements to vendors in a clear and effective manner.
  • Strong quantitative skills. Ability to “level” bids and present financial analysis supporting recommendations & decisions.
  • Track record in achieving results
  • Must take and pass TAM (Techniques of Alcohol Management) Nevada training class.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of food & beverage, paper, cleaning supply, and uniform industries. Knowledge of industry terminology and manufacturing practices. Understanding of product specifications, costs, performance levels, suitability for MSG environment, after-purchase maintenance needs. Keep up with industry developments to create value and recommend changes & improvements.
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and 5+ years of experience
  • Able to perform effectively under pressure. Handling several projects simultaneously.
  • Must Sphere location specific Sheriff Card documentation.
  • Knowledge of Southern Nevada Health Food regulations and proper food handling certification
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and company policies regarding purchasing, vendor relations, and sales tax.
