Job Description

Position Overview

Step Up For Students (SUFS) is seeking a Sr. Manager, Enterprise Data Modernization and Governance team. A SUFS leader that recognizes the value of data and is responsible for managing the business priorities, work-initiation, and delivery of enterprise-level data modernization solutions that meet the demands of both internal and external customers.


The Sr. Manager will be leading the Enterprise Data Modernization and Governance Team by providing business direction and prioritization to the technical teams along with data governance. He/she will drive the data and strategy of making key data accessible, accurate and complete for data driven decision making and student success. The scope of work performed by the Sr. Manager includes but is not limited to data ownership, advanced statistical analysis, project management, functional management, governance, strategy execution, and customer satisfaction.


The Sr. Manager will report to the Sr. Director of Enterprise Data Operations and Strategy and will work closely with the members of the Senior IT Leadership Team and will help guide others throughout the organization to ensure strategy alignment.

Great care should be taken to ensure that the technological solutions that meet the business needs of the enterprise are delivered while also balancing the financial objectives and real-world constraints associated with a fast-paced, high growth organization. The Sr. Manager ensures the continued success of these areas while simultaneously minimizing costs and maximizing resource utilization.

Essential Functions

  • Support the data vision by driving and aligning on our KR’s, Strategic initiatives, Operational projects, Stage Gate, and others by collaborating with the Data & BI team, Data QA, product owner, project manager, business analysts and business units.
  • Drives data strategies that support data collection, cross-channel data integration, data visualization, dashboards, predictive analytics, and data mining.
  • Coordinates with business leaders and teams on all data collection, oversees data integration into the warehouse and soon to the cloud. Identify, communicate, and mitigate risks associated with cross-product efforts.
  • Proactively identify and propose solutions for complex delivery and timeline problems, communicate solutions concisely, and articulate a clear plan to overcome delivery hurdles to technical and non-technical groups to passionately drive results.
  • Establishes effective processes for requesting and prioritizing delivery of accurate data for internal and external use.
  • Maintains and measures progress to roadmap ensuring Data team’s alignment with company mission and goals.
  • Clear understanding of the industry domain and relevant metrics to support the organizational needs. Plan, align and re-align data initiatives to the business strategy.
  • Responsible for collaborating and adapting the data vision resulting in success of enterprise data operations and strategy.
  • Oversee 200+ data dashboards & reports that provide key up-to-date statistical information about scholarship programs.
  • Reviews documents, KPI’s, success metrics, reports, projects associated with the initiatives and overcomes delivery hurdles.
  • Partners with senior business executives and key stakeholders in creating the data roadmap to consistently aid data governance across the business and improve overall business performance.

· Partner with various departments in the organization to create common terms and definitions as part of the glossary development and maintenance process.

· Leads organization in understanding, interpreting data and terminology in reporting, software development, and operational policies/practices.

  • Implement and maintain Data Governance in alignment with data, technology, and business strategy.
  • Leverage the use of framework or cloud tools to create and maintain the Data Catalog, Data Glossary, & Data Classification. Ability to track and document reports & dashboard data lineage.
  • Uphold standards for Master Data Management (MDM), data lineage, data definitions, data lifecycle, data quality and data stewardship.

· Understanding of cloud technology (i.e., Azure services), Enterprise data warehouse, data lakes to support the organization in migrating to cloud and in building state-of-art enterprise-wide BI solutions and reports.

  • Provides guidance to the Enterprise Data & BI team on changes in policies and legislation that might improve outcomes in the scholarship program.
  • Plays an analytical role where he/she will be responsible for the evaluation of analytics and machine learning technologies for future business process improvements.
  • Keeps up to date on new approaches in education measurement and reform in Florida and other states.
  • Leverages data tools and techniques in analyzing large datasets to develop custom models and algorithms to uncover insights, trends, and patterns in the data, which will be useful in determining informed courses of action.
  • Support various departments within the organization by assisting them in understanding how data can benefit them to derive the insights needed in their decision-making.
  • Oversees, manages, and provides direction to the Enterprise Data Modernization and Governance team, holds the team accountable to committed due dates, inculcate due diligence, manage prioritization, encourage continuous improvement.
  • Develop, Motivate, and build the team so that they perform to their optimal capacity. Improving the process and workstream at all levels.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in data Analytics/Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 4 plus years of experience working with complex data structures in a data-driven cloud and on-prem environment along with Data governance. Project Management experience preferred but not required.
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail. Possesses strong problem-solving aptitude.
  • 4 plus years of experience in managing a highly skilled team.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, Cloud Technologies, Big Data, BI & Analytics, Data Management, Data Integration, and Data Governance
  • Experience/Good understanding of Azure services such as ADF, Synapse.
  • Experience with any of the Data cataloging platform tools such as Purview, Alation, Informatica, Collibra etc.
  • Experience managing initiatives & implementing Data Modernization & BI solutions.

· Exceptional analytical, conceptual thinking, and documentation skills.

  • Able to quickly understand the functionality of a product.
  • In-depth understanding of Agile methodologies, technical understanding of products, and up to date on industry standards and best practices.
  • Proven record of delivery and product successes in previous positions.
  • Experience with project initiation and funding processes (scope, high level estimates, value statement creation).
  • Experience with documenting project budgets (in collaboration with various resources) and working with teams to refine and adjust.
  • Ability to deliver executive level project presentations.
  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty.
  • Hands-on experience managing product-driven solutions.
  • Technical background with knowledge of software development, data design, web, and cloud technologies.
  • Comfortable working with multiple teams, in-house and remote; strong team player.
