ROLE SUMMARY:
As the Sr. Malt Production Manager (Sr. Maltster), you will own everything associated with the process of transforming barley into good quality malt for our beers. You will also lead quality and production goals for the plant, ensuring we provide our breweries with top quality malt. Along with this, you will challenge and coach our malt personnel as individuals and as a team, including career and succession planning, recruitment, and learning and development to lead future growth.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Owns recipe changes and coordinates with operators to assure the quantity and quality of the malt produced. Constantly reviews the operation of the plant to monitor production and quality, anticipating and solving problems in a timely manner, and identifying opportunities for improvement while reducing utility consumption.
  • Assure safety and compliance for the department and those under their supervision adhere to the safety culture and direction.
  • Perform advanced leadership/supervisory duties, including interviews, hires, reviewing work performance, motivating team to work more effectively, identifying problems with performance and solutions to those problems, determining training needs to improve performance, and resolves worker concerns.
  • Detect and correct abnormalities related with the malting plant operation. Communicates directly with manager of other departments to solve the different problems or abnormalities during the day-to-day operations of our malting plant to assuring agility, flexibility, efficiency and productivity.
  • Responsibility for the entire malting process, from the steeping of the barley to germination and kilning, assuring quality along the process. Additionally, collaborate with Logistics Manager on the malt storage, aging, rail car loading, and managed raw material and finished malt inventories.
  • Internal excellence program owner for site VPO, lead the facility on Lean Manufacturing concepts in different areas of the facility in order to identify opportunities and use Continuous improvement tools to close gaps.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Capacity to work under pressure, exercise initiative, lead people, strong sense of responsibility, and teamwork orientated.
  • Solid knowledge of malt facility operations, regulations, quality standards, financial planning, and budgeting.
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferred in agricultural or related field.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills. Must have superior leadership ability and be self-motivated.
