Job Description
Selective candidates eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $7,500. Limited Time Incentive for Former Employees & New Hires All new University of Iowa applicants who accept an offer on or before May 15, and begin employment within 90 days of offer, will receive an incentive of $7,500. Moving allowance may be available. Current UI employees are not eligible.


The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking Senior Imaging Technologists to perform and teach specialized general diagnostic radiography procedures utilizing complex imaging equipment with close patient monitoring during exam. Also, to perform general radiography procedures in multiple areas within the hospital including Adult and Pediatric Radiology, emergency room, OR, fluoroscopy and orthopedic clinic.


Duties Include


  • Instruct and/or evaluate the clinical abilities and performance of Radiology Technology or sub-specialty students on a clinical rotation.
  • Participate in on-call coverage.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Perform quality assurance procedures and evaluate systems performance.
  • Instruct trainees, students and staff on equipment operation and safety precautions.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with hospital, departmental and clinical unit standards.
  • Maintain, operate and trouble-shoot and report equipment failures.
  • Operate, adjust, and manipulate computerized electronic and mechanical components of computerized axial tomographic, angiographic, magnetic resonance systems and multiple modalities of other general diagnostic equipment.
  • Explain examination process to patients.
  • Maintain records and results of examinations and archive computer data.
  • Ensure patients welfare and assist physician with medical procedures
  • Plan daily, regular and STAT scheduling for efficient room utilization.
  • Participate in phantom, human and/or animal research.
  • Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, I.V. placement, vital sign monitoring and recording, and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical developments, software updates, and related subjects by attending meetings, continuing education programs, and participation in professional organizations and/or review journals or publications.

Education Requirements


  • A Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


Experience Requirements


  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Minimum 1-year related work experience


Certification Requirements


  • Current Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.


Desirable Qualifications


  • Previous work or clinical education experience in general radiology in a level 1 Trauma center is desired.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in general radiography is desired.
