TOUR I (12am-8am)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Supervise approximately 20 housekeeping employees to maintain the facility in an orderly, sanitary and aesthetically pleasing condition to ensure a clean, safe, healthy environment for all patients, visitors and staff. Responsible for the timely, courteous, and competent services rendered in a safe manner.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure corporate emails are checked daily; respond promptly and courteously to messages.
  • Adhere to the guidelines as outlined by the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct regular inventory of housekeeping supplies and order same, keeping costs in line with approved budgetary amounts.
  • Conform to established time and leave regulations and policies; provide proper notification for absences and tardiness.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Environmental Services provide leadership, guidance and direction in accordance with departmental goals and objectives by ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the facilities and grounds.
  • Regulatory agencies.
  • When assigned, will assist in the collection and hand loading of waste, as well as the transporting of this waste to the final assigned destination.
  • Attend professional meetings, workshops, and conferences to enrich knowledge, and to improve housekeeping management skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital records and use discretion when discussing patient and hospital matters.
  • Practice infection control, asepsis techniques and isolation procedures in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
  • Regularly inspect to determine if cleanliness standards are being maintained and evaluate physical condition of the hospital.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Assign hazardous waste treatment concerns to the hazardous waste safety manager and department directors.
  • Ensure maintenance of housekeeping standards to effectuate germicidal control.
  • Works effectively as a team member and help build relationships within it. Actively help and support others to achieve team goals.
  • Ensure all hazardous waste is properly disposed at the appropriate destinations in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • This facility provides essential services. Employees therefore, must respond promptly and appropriately to all emergencies and/or directives.
  • Consult with superior regarding situations needing specific attention or follow-up.
  • Prepare reports: maintain records. Complete required paperwork and other documentation in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Immediately report hazardous conditions which can endanger the well-being of patients, visitors and hospital staff to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in the practical reinforcement of all training programs for subordinate employees.
  • Read manuals to keep current on Housekeeping unit activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of work crew schedules to ensure maximum departmental efficiency, as required. Establish standards and work methods considering traffic, visiting hours and special assignments that must be completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain adequate communication with staff, management and department heads in a clear and professional manner and maintain a good working relationship with all divisions of the hospital.
  • Display caring actions, even on stressful situations when communicating with patients, visitors and peers.
  • Contribute to the success of the organization by participating in the organizational and customer service/employee relations action plan program.
  • Review absence monitoring records monthly for your staff and follow the corrective action guidelines described in Operating Procedure 20-10 and 20-2 to address unscheduled absences and tardiness
  • Conduct appropriate disciplinary action with employees as necessary for infraction of NYC H+H and Employee Handbook policies, rules and regulations in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of housekeeping program; study new cleaning methods, equipment and supplies, and requisitions experimental quantities: make revisions and incorporates new methods and techniques.
  • Plan and carry out activities in an orderly and well-structured way. Prioritize tasks, use time in the best possible way, and work within appropriate policy and procedures.
  • Prepare annual performance evaluations, review them with staff. Provide constructive direction to correct deficiencies.
  • Review and approve/deny time and leave requests submitted by staff with first consideration given to patient care and the operating efficiency of the department.

Minimum Qualifications


One year of service in the title of Housekeeper or performing housekeeping or related functions.
