Our Senior Health Coach position is fast-paced and high-volume yet provides balance with being able to practice your health and well-being practices. As a Senior Health Coach, you will be helping people improve their overall health through lifestyle changes within their areas of sleep, nutrition, social support, stress resilience, physical activity, and mindset. Your duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Devising and implementing strategies to improve outcomes for those being coached with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension.
  • Troubleshooting problem areas, revising plans as needed and providing professional support and encouragement.
  • Maintaining a positive relationship with coaching clientele, junior coaches and department supervisors.

  • Has experience and a strong understanding of health coaching.
  • Can manage projects from start to finish and take initiative.
  • Is board certified through the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching.
  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coaches about behavior changes to improve health status, reduce health risks and improve quality of life.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to develop, implement and oversee programs to improve engagement and increase coaching efficiency.
  • Prioritizes and organizes daily workflow for self and junior level coaches as well as other assignments/projects; meet commitments and deadlines.
  • Coordinates the preparation and delivery of educational materials.
  • Assists with recruitment, hiring and other staffing needs.
  • Brings ideas and innovations on coaching practice and participant engagement; provides leadership and deep understanding of programs.
  • Maintains professional relationships, including frequent and open effective communication with the team.
  • Monitors participant data to view progress and/or challenges.
  • Performs as an integral member of the coaching team to establish coaching parameters and set standard coaching practices.
  • Conducts additional training and development for coaching team as needed.
  • Provides health and wellness education utilizing a variety of strategies including group presentations, support-group facilitation, creative use of media, newsletter contributions, etc.
  • Provides mentorship and training to junior level coaches.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Proactively spots and corrects issues that could affect engagement and outcomes.
  • Assists with performance reviews and on-boarding of new employees.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields: Health Promotion, Nutrition/Dietetics, Public Health, Exercise and Sport Science, Education, Social Work, Counseling or related field required.

Certifications:

  • Other certifications approved by the National Consortium for Credentialing Health and Wellness Coaches (NCCHWC) may be considered.
  • Completion of the National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) certification from the International Consortium for Health & Wellness Coaching (ICHWC) preferred.
  • Completion of the Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach certification through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA) preferred.

Complexity of Work:

  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-directed with demonstrated ability to work independently yet establish cooperative relationships with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Work Experience:

  • Master’s Degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of coaching experience in healthcare setting or comparable direct patient care setting.
  • Supervisory experience with workload distribution, training and education.
  • Expertise in helping prevent and/or improve management of lifestyle related chronic conditions using strategies such as smoking cessation, weight management, dietary interventions, stress reduction, and exercise.

Physical Requirements:

  • May require working irregular hours.
  • A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer.
  • Requires normal to corrected vision and hearing in normal range.
  • Some travel may be required.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
