Job Description
The senior graphic designer manages print and interactive design projects from concept to implementation, collaborating with campus clients, freelance designers and outside vendors. Attention to detail and organization are key, as this person often develops effective and consistent marketing communications under competing deadlines. The position works with many areas across campus, but their primary focus will be projects supporting the Office of Admission and the President’s Office.
Salary Grade A15 Essential Functions
  • Supports Elmhurst University’s mission, vision and values.
  • Collaborates with the marketing and creative services manager on managing print production workflow by identifying cost-effective vendors, partnering with campus clients on creative, tracking and making revisions, and delivering completed projects on time.
  • Functions as a key member of the Office of Marketing and Communications, working with the other staff graphic designers, freelance designers, copywriters and outside agencies.
  • Acts as the University’s brand steward, maintaining an institutional identity guide and promoting campus wide compliance.
  • Serves as the lead designer on institutional design projects (ex. online and print advertising, brochures, newsletters, direct mail, web and social media assets, event publicity, Academic Catalog, identity design, environmental graphics, etc.) and also manages outsourced projects.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with external print partners and ensures quality of final pieces.
  • Maintains a digital archive of design projects, photos and video assets.
  • Identities and evaluates strategic improvements, including new technology and software; monitors trends in the design industry.
  • Brainstorms and develops visual aspects of marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to continual improvement.
  • Works with administrative and academic departments to create designs that consistent with the University brand; editing is required with most projects and is an important aspect of the position.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, marketing or related field and a strong portfolio of work.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to high standards.
  • Experience working with the Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office and cloud storage (the office currently uses Box).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion within established deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective design concepts for a variety of mediums.
  • Excellent multitasking, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for graphic design, content editing and emerging technologies.
  • At least five years of professional graphic design experience; in higher education preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
