Senior Director, Quality & Food Safety

The Senior Director – Quality & Food Safety is responsible for the Global Quality & Food Safety function. This position will be responsible for the overall strategy and quality standards for our equity and international markets, supplier qualification programs and 3rd party quality & food safety standards. Responsibilities

• Manage departmental budget and capital expenditures
• Recruit and develop all research and development and laboratory services staff
• Implement standards for third party partners
• Oversee all ingredient specifications and approvals whether purchased or manufactured
• Document and maintain all SOPs, quality assurance and safety procedures; ensure procedures are followed and documented per the policies
• Oversee all quality control functions regarding product manufacturing
• Provide guidance and leadership where deviations have occurred, or a potential risk has been identified related to food safety and quality attributes
• Measure, analyze and report supplier quality performance against quality standards through specification compliance, complaints, defect rates and other applicable performance measures.
• Coordinate with the Equipment Department to ensure all equipment research and development complies with standards
• Direct regulatory and crisis/special situation management programs related to QA/QC and food safety
• Manage food industry matters which affect nutritional, food safety, and regulatory compliance
• Conduct audits for company and vendor plants to ensure specifications meet guidelines and standards
• Partner with Operations team on quality assurance, quality control and safety issues

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology or related discipline
• Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s and GAP’s
• Strong research and development skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Must have at least 8+ years of experience in a QA/QC function
• Ability to travel 50-70% (domestic and international)
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
• Experience working within the food industry, specifically knowledge of raw material and ingredient functionality
