Job Description
The Senior Director of Construction is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of the course of construction of homes from truss installation to house completion. Additionally, the Senior Director of Construction is responsible for all field staff training, ensuring that the field staff has a clear understanding of their responsibilities and duties as well as a clear understanding of a path for growth. The position must direct all training requirements and meetings as well as the responsibility of weekly staff schedules. This position is also responsible for all aspects of the warranty function. Responding to Homeowners warranty concerns, scheduling appointments & performing warranty repairs, and maintaining records of all warranty requests and repairs. Working with Supervisor 1,2, the Senior Director of Construction should address items that appear during the warranty phase. As a leader, this position ensures creating a positive, professional environment that fosters strong team member engagement. Participates and supports the Department’s strategies/initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Construction:
Responsible for coordinating and delivering all field staff training to ensure technical competence. This must include tool maintenance and repair
Conducts, attends, and directs all construction meetings for the field staff
Inspect construction sites to ensure appropriate level of quality control, and that all field staff are in compliance, and on schedule
Proactively identify and work to restore any site issues that may impede project delivery
Liaise with field staff to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives
Coordinate and direct the activities of field staff
Maintain all records pertaining to the warranty function
Create a warranty process and respond to Homeowners’ requests within 24 hours
Conduct monthly Home Maintenance I, II, Energy Conservation, and Warranty evening classes
Assess warranty issues and create a plan to avoid them in the future
Coach and encourage field staff to engage volunteers in a way that maximizes effectiveness and impact of build day
Report weekly progress to V.P of Construction
Continually improve and build upon existing training processes by identifying areas of improvement, designing solutions with measurable impacts in mind, and executing such fixes
Maintain a safe work environment by actively building and reinforcing safety standards at the sites
Ensure efficient day-to-day operations of the sites to meet and exceed target goals
Management:
Liaise between field staff and management to build, and maintain, mutually beneficial relationships
Maintain an amazing work culture by instilling a team-oriented sense of camaraderie amongst the field staff by supporting the reward incentives programs and other initiatives
Actively participate within the Construction Department Managers meeting to ensure collaboration and best practice sharing amongst the broader team
Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to effectively plan, organize and manage field staff trainings to achieve targets and objectives within a set timeframe
Ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff and develop into a customer focused team
Ability to effectively manage and establish rapport with external customers
Ability to analyze and make informed decisions on a day-to-day basis with guidance and support from supervisor
Excellent prioritization skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Client oriented with a strong commitment to client services
Excellent customer relations skills in dealing with sub-contractors, suppliers, and local municipal permitting inspectors
Ability to initiate and respond positively to change

Safety:
Monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction industry standards
Collaborates with VP of Construction to develop, establish and coordinate new safety procedures
Other responsibilities:
Possess the capability of reading blueprints
Attends and participates in required HfHPWP meetings and evening classes
Assists in preparations for special events, storm and disaster plan if implemented
Other duties as delegated
Job Requirements
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and being able to communicate effectively. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Five years’ experience in residential construction working on construction sites is highly preferred, five years of supervisory experience, knowledge of the construction process and operations. A clear understanding of Habitat for Humanity’s mission and proven ability to train semi-skilled and unskilled volunteers.
Education: High School Equivalent, Associates Degree preferred
Certification & Licensure Requirements: Must have valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record with reliable transportation. Must be able to drive Habitat’s vehicles
Pre-Requisite Requirements: Ability to pass Criminal Background check, Drug Screening and Sexual Offender Check
Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, donors, volunteers, and the general public. Ability to speak English fluently and possess English written skills - Bi-lingual not required, definitely a plus.
Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Computer/Equipment Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PROCORE

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a Construction environment. On occasion, an employee may be susceptible to outside weather climate and conditions. $70,000- $85,000 per year
Typical hours are 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Tuesday through Saturday.
