Senior Director, Analytical Development


Company Summary:

The Medical Device division of a large, global biotechnology company is currently seeking a driven, motivated, and enthusiastic Senior Director to join to help build out an analytical development team for characterization and release of products. This position is located in Rhode Island at the Company’s cell and genetic therapies R&D site. You will play a key role in cross-functional leadership for the oversight of analytical development deliverables across the CMC space.


The Senior Director will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the designing, planning, and execution of IND and/or BLA–enabling analytical activities are carried out by the analytical development team
  • Providing analytical development team progress updates and reports to senior management and other collaborators
  • Planning budgets as well as risk-reducing studies that are in line with company priorities and add substantial value
  • Ensuring that personal, personnel, and corporate goals are achieved on time with the proper resources
  • Building, training, mentoring, and leading a team of highly technical professionals in the analytical development space
  • Authoring regulatory submissions, approving SOPs, and ensuring all processes are in accordance with GMP standards


The Senior Director should have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as both an individual contributor and a matrixed leader
  • SME for analytical method development for assays such as DSC, FTIR, SEM, and Gurley
  • Strategic ability to build and improve an analytical development team and lead through the entire product development life cycle
  • PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related scientific field with 11+ years of industry experience in analytical/assay developmentOR Master’s degree with 15+ years of experience
  • Progressive leadership experience in analytical control strategies
