Job Description
Reporting to the Opco President, the Snr Director of DBS is responsible for driving global DBS capability and continuous improvement. The role is a key partner to the President and L1 Team to develop both long and short term DBS strategies to deliver Operating Company results. Ability to link Danaher Business Systems (DBS) current state to CVDs (Core Value Drivers) through a DBS Roadmap and lead organization with actions that close gaps and build competitive advantage.


The Danaher Business System (DBS) is our proven system for achieving success. DBS is a philosophy, set of values, and series of management processes that collectively define who we are and how we do what we do at Danaher. Our DBS tools are designed to help us excel in the areas of Growth, Leadership, and Lean, building on a strong foundation of DBS fundamentals (Voice of Customer, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Transactional Process Improvement, Kaizen, 5S, Problem Solving, and Visual & Daily Management).


Major Responsibilities:


  • Lead and support in-year DBS execution which may include Operation Reviews, LII Policy Deployment, and gemba reviews. Supports kaizen charter reviews and execution, especially for President’s and Shingijutsu kaizens. Quality of the kaizen funnel and sustainment is critical to success.
  • Creates and manages a global team of DBSLs (Danaher Business Systems Leaders) across segments and geographies. These will include DBSLs representing Lean, Innovation, and Commercial. Provide objectives, coaching, and focus to the team to hit specific local goals and continue to the build global DBS capability.
  • Collaborate on Operating Company annual Strategic Plan process with potential to own and support specific initiatives or chapters. Ability to connect-the-dots between the multi-year strategy and DBS execution. Leverage L1 Policy Deployment to craft annual Improvement Priorities. This includes facilitating the ownership, problem/opportunity breakdown, with action plans and metrics to deliver results. Coaches Problem Solving against key PD and KPI misses, building PSP capability and closing process and metric gaps. Supports the President with L1 monthly Operations an PD execution.
  • Responsible for driving overall OpCo plan to drive DBS awareness, engagement, and capability. This includes a keen ability to assess the current state of different locations and departments across the OpCo. Will work with L1, DBSLs, and local leadership to build the team and plan to grow DBS locally. Success here includes building DBS skill from multiple levels in the organization with evidence of sustainment.
  • Has depth of knowledge across DBS Fundamentals and Segments (Lean, Commercial, Innovation, and Leadership). Leads from the front with DBS, as evidenced through Advanced Certified Practitioner and Certified status. Experience with Policy Deployment and Problem Solving and ability to coach is critical. Has a visible OpCo plan and roadmap to build DBS Certified Practitioners across the organization’s locations and departments.
  • Partner with the President and L1 Team to develop both long- and short-term DBS strategies to deliver Operating Company business needs and continuous improvement. Ability to link DBS current state to CVDs (Core Value Drivers) through a DBS Roadmap and lead organization with actions that close gaps and build competitive advantage. Key to success here is capability and confidence to challenge and influence the President and L1 Team with an eye towards focusing on the critical few.

Qualifications


Must be able to lead and influence across levels and departments in multiple geographies. Ability to work up and down the organization to drive focus and impact of results. Must think and act strategically and view the business from a general management standpoint. Must be very customer focused and have strong interpersonal and communications skills.


  • BS or BA Degree in Business or equivalent
  • Ability to work with functions in the implementation of the DBS roadmap and implement key growth initiatives; successfully drives change, handles conflict / ambiguity
  • Superior skills in communications, training / adult learning, consulting / influencing; teamwork across disciplines, regions, and cultures
  • Demonstrated successful experience as DBS Leader or a General Manager, commercial, or functional leader with extensive DBS experience.
  • Experience developing and owning strategic plan initiatives and in year execution (Policy Deployment)
  • 10+ years of business management experience with demonstrated success leading teams in a global environment
