The Role
The Senior Bioinformatician/Bioinformatics Scientist role is responsible for the designing, development, and maintenance of Bioinformatic tools. The Senior Bioinformatician/Bioinformatics Scientist will act as a subject matter expert to provide support, guidance, and critical analysis for Bioinformatics activities across the company. The primary focus of this role is to contribute to the development of bioinformatics software to analyze and report out clinically relevant results generated by our sequencing platform, as well as to assist in the identification of medically relevant targets and in the design of sequencing assays for our patented sequencing technology
Responsibilities
The candidates that are considered for the Job position will typically be able to:
- Contribute to the development of the bioinformatics pipeline components of DNAe’s targeted sequencing solution and Maintaining documentation of procedures and process configurations. This typically entails the following tasks:
o Develop, innovate, and validate NGS algorithms, analytical solutions, and modules of bioinformatics pipelines for clinical tests.
o Design, implement, validate, and maintain internal sequence databases for applications in Molecular Diagnostics (particularly infectious diseases and oncology). Deliver a master data management plan to guarantee data coherence and provide specifications to computational Scientist for its implementation.
o Implement the required algorithms as Python Scripts and respect the necessary procedures (Code review, Code versioning, coordination with Software and Data Science teams)
o Guarantee analysis scalability by Implementing proprietary pipelines and BioInformatics software in the cloud computing environment.
- Contribute to Build the required technical documentation to demonstrate the discriminative power of our platform both for Infectious diseases and cancer applications, and support compliance. And to do so:
o Produce data sets to demonstrate system performance
o Run and document in silico Experiments for Development projects using our Bioinformatics platform, stand-alone software, or in-house scripts.
o Provide Key Performance Indicators regarding our internal Bioinformatics platform and Guarantee compliance of Bioinformatics processes to Quality standards.
o Participate in relevant regulatory forums to help ensure our product designs reflect the Bioinformatics challenges of a regulated diagnostic sample-to-answer sequencing tests.
o Ensures compliance with all relevant standards to guarantee security, and confidentiality of transactions. Actively support IT team to reach highest standards in cybersecurity of BioInformatics data (both in the final diagnostic platform and the DNAe’s environment)
- Support internal teams for their BioInformatics needs, and in particular
o Design, implement, validate, and maintain world-class Bioinformatics tools for real-time PCR and targeted sequencing assays.
o Train Internal users to Bioinformatics platform tools and Reference data management (From Medical data to Sequence databanks).
- Promote BioInformatics Excellence, Collaboration, and good working practices:
o Actively promote scientific interactions within the Bioinformatics team by setting-up technical reviews and brainstorming sessions to answer internal user’s needs.
o Adheres to detailed work plans and timelines. Provides timely status reports.
o Partners with the IT, Data Science and Software teams to test and validate new analytical tools and processes.

Qualifications, Education and experience
Education and experience
- PhD or MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or equivalently technical discipline, or extensive software product development experience.
- Demonstrated experience in producing BioInformatics/software in the context of a regulated environments (ISO13845, IEC62304, IEC 62366 standards, Guidance for the Content of Premarket Submissions for Software Contained in Medical Devices for industry and FDA Staff, and DNAe requirements, etc).
Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job
- Ability to work in an international context, with multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of working with scripting languages such as Python and all relevant BioInformatics and machine learning packages (From pandas to Tensorflow).
- Expertise in Statistical analysis of BioInformatics data, to support the development of state-of-the-art BioInformatics pipelines (such as without being limited to Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning techniques), as well as verification and validation work of DNAe products.
- Extensive experience with open-source bioinformatics, genome analysis tools and BioInformatics research tools.
- Ability to demonstrate technical leadership in BioInformatics; through the organization and delivery of formal technical reviews, technical trainings (inside and outside the team), as well as the writing and review of scientific reports supporting the development of BioInformatics processes.
- Knowledge of working with the publicly available sequence repositories (NCBI databanks, FDA-Argos, etc) and their use in clinical development context.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with C/C++ or any other compiled language, object-oriented programming
- Ideally have worked within a multidisciplinary team with an emphasis on excellent communication skills
- Experience with relational or non-relational database construction, management, and querying (such as SQL or MongoDB)
- Experience in software development flows for medical devices, and familiarity with relevant ISO standards such as 14971, 62304, 61010
- Knowledge of the Quality and Regulatory requirements for the design and development of IVD assays
- Experience as internal auditor in clinical development context especially on topics linked to molecular biology and bioinformatics
