Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Assistant Director of Admissions who will balance the core admission officer responsibilities of recruitment and management of a regional territory while also providing leadership over a key programmatic or process area(s) across the office.
Leadership roles will fall in one or more of the following areas of focus: Evaluation and selection, Daily Visit Programming, Counselor relations, Transfer cycle coordination, Athletics, Alumni Volunteers, Domestic Recruitment Strategy and International Recruitment Strategy, Messaging and Presentations etc.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
Provide leadership over a key business area within the undergraduate admissions office, responsible for all logistics, timelines, planning, strategic direction and evaluation of processes and policies that fall within their designated area of focus.
This position will sit on the broader recruitment planning team with a strategic focus on international recruitment.
He/she will also develop messaging and presentation content in partnership with the Marketing and Communications team.
Oversight of major programs and/processes and connects them to strategies in other areas of the office towards institutional goals.
Build relationships with all relevant third parties (within Undergraduate admissions as well as across the university) to collaborate effectively towards goals.
Work with the management team to develop a strategic vision for their respective areas of focus.
Develop an evaluative structure for effective programing in their designated area of focus: work with Data team to create tools and/or an analysis plan to analyze and improve work in their strategic areas.
Build short and long term plans to set goals, implement new strategies and evaluate them over time.
Identify future areas for innovation/growth within their area.
Work with the Marketing and Communications team to manage a communication plan relevant to their area of focus as needed.
Create any staff training content around their area of focus.
Manage a regional territory-read applications, plan recruitment strategies and initiatives, and manage constituent relationships.
Represent JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions.
Work collaboratively across teams and with other offices at JHU (eg. Marketing, Operations, Visitors Center, Financial Aid, etc)
Staff Supervisor
Oversee the growth and development of 4 new admissions counselors, as they master the basics of the job.
Support manager in staff development.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty and other university partners as well as the ability to represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrates the utmost level of professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
Appreciation for working with diverse populations.
Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Five years progressively responsible related experience.
Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a college or university admissions officer preferred, which would include recruitment and application review.
Additional requirements
Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.
Must have valid driver's license and be able to drive a car.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
