The Assistant Controller & Financial Analyst will handle high-level and managerial accounting and oversee the company's financial activities. This key member of our accounting department will contribute to all aspects of financial accounting and management, including budgeting, Gross Margin analysis by customer and product, pricing strategies, advertising ROI, productivity analysis, expense-saving strategies, and more.

This role will report to Denny Boyd, President, and the current Controller, and assist with managing our outside audit firm, and banking relationships.

This position will analyze the efficiencies of our various business functions of importing, exporting, manufacturing, distribution, and retailing. We value your input.

We sell amazing mattresses and bedroom furniture through large retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Mattress Firm, Wayfair, and Penny’s, as well as direct to consumers via our websites and our local retail chain, The Bedroom Store. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead the monthly financial reporting process, enhance our GTM KPIs, and become a trusted partner within Finance and the rest of Boyd Sleep.
  • Monitor and reconcile cash and funding balances.
  • Ensure a documented system of accounting policies and procedures is followed by the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting.
  • Assist in all aspects of accounting, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, financial accounting, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and various special analyses.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of financial statements for review.
  • Financial reporting of weekly and monthly sales accounts and cost center reporting.
  • Assist in the accounting department cross-training.
  • Management of several accounting department team members.
  • Cash Flow: Coordinate collections with our A/R staff. Provide cash flow projections.
  • Coordinate audit and tax preparation services.
  • Advise management through financial analyses, and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, significant costs, benchmarks, budgeting, finical forecasting, margin analysis, and other matters.
  • Assist in end-of-month closing procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Define benchmarks and implement operational best practices.
  • Job may require other projects and special duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and analyze financial management presentations for the President, Management Team, and Bank.
  • ·Maintain key metrics to help provide insights into business performance including sales velocity by salesperson and region, pipeline velocity, sales productivity, labor efficiency, margin analysis, etc.
  • Oversee payments made for debts, bank loans, and overseas vendors.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Ability to improve our processes and quality of information.
  • Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Slides skills
  • 5 or more years experience in Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning and Analysis, and supervisory or managerial positions.
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills, proactive approach.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
  • Experience building financial reporting decks for various audiences (Management Team, Sales Staff)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, and Business Administration with an emphasis on accounting and financial analysis. or a related field.
  • Strong analytical experience, with expertise in financial modeling. Budgeting and forecasting skills.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, including exposure to leadership presentations.
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Sage 500 a plus, but not mandatory, experience in software systems implementation a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
