The Grants Manager has the primary responsibility of serving as a point person for day-to-day Grants Management (GM) team operations and ensuring the successful administration of grants both from donors (grants‐in) and to grantees (grants‐out). This includes providing high-level input toward the design and maintenance of workflow processes, policies, procedures, and related instructional documentation; upholding compliance and data management best practices across our grants management and CRM systems; and managing the allocation of GM-team resources in response to workload. Primary Accountabilities

The accountabilities include:


Grants Management Operations

Lead the GM team’s collective execution of its grants administration responsibilities to ensure consistency, accuracy, compliance, and transparency; surface any key GM-team issues and establish a corrective action plan that capitalizes on team strengths, builds trust, increases morale, and ultimately maximizes collective team performance; serve as a GM-team lead in interfacing with the Advisory, Executive, Finance, Operations, and Sponsored Projects and Funds teams to maintain strong and supportive interdepartmental relationships; and lead training activities related to best practices, trends, and innovative strategies in grants management.


Grants Compliance

Ensure all grants are compliant with funder, legal, and regulatory requirements as well as with our internal policies processes, and that the related data is recorded accurately in our grants management and client relationship management systems.


Grants Management Growth and Development

Actively engage with philanthropy affinity organizations to keep current on field-related trends, as well as best practices in grants management, and share findings across the organization.


Policies and Procedures

Contribute to the optimization of grants management and compliance efforts by supporting the conceptualizing, drafting, reviewing, and revising of all workflow processes, policies, procedures, communications, and instructional documentation relative to the GM function.


Complexity and Problem-solving

  • Communicates with other people without requiring supervision and provides technical guidance when required on speaking in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Applies knowledge of the nonprofit sector, specifically fiscal sponsorship; and grants management best practices, including IRS regulations regarding charitable status, donor-advised funds, expenditure responsibility, equivalency determination, and lobbying to oversee compliant grantmaking without requiring supervision.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on analyzing systems usage and data trends for use in designing compliance and technical training offerings.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on acquiring, organizing, protecting, and processing data to fulfill business objectives.
  • Works without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on researching and recommending technical platforms related to grants management.
  • Uses clear and effective verbal communication skills without supervision and provides technical guidance when required on expressing ideas, requesting actions, and formulating plans or policies.


Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position is responsible to the Director, Grants, and Contracts Management and all financial decisions and require approval.
  • All facets of this position are self-directed within the policies and procedures approved by the CEO and broad guidelines established by the Director, Grants, and Contracts Management.
  • Responsible for driving decisions related to the management of the function regarding personnel actions, acquisitions, and utilization of resources, procedures, and control systems.


Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Proven senior-level experience in a grants management capacity at a grantmaking organization (5-8 years).


Travel Requirements

  • Some travel may be required.


Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $98,400 – $103,000 salary per year. The range listed is one component of the total compensation package for employees.
