Job Description

The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is seeking a qualified Physical Security Officer who is excited to join a high performing and dedicated team.

An EWEB Physical Security Officer will employ security strategies and procedures aligned with service level agreements, policies, standards, and operating procedures that promote a secure work environment. Responsibilities include protecting utility infrastructure and resources from threats using digital video management, physical access control systems, proactive vehicle based and on foot patrolling, and answering calls for service. Routine contact with the public will require employing proactive prevention and outreach strategies, utilizing community-oriented service and problem-solving techniques. This is an unarmed position with an overall goal of maintaining excellent working conditions by keeping our facilities safe and problem-free.

Physical Security Officers at EWEB will also:

  • Detect, analyze, and alert others of any incidents which may impact employees, property, reliability, or resiliency of the utility. These may range from extreme weather conditions, technical failures, civil unrest, crime, terror, and personnel issues.
  • Supports risk identification and mitigation planning and implementation projects at Division level.
  • Employ problem-oriented security strategies, procedures, and research methods, to include data gathering, organizing, and reporting. This includes analyzing threats and envisioning potential or real time impact to utility operations with the ability to develop or implement quick responses or mitigation strategies.
  • May interact with community members to include disturbed, distraught, difficult, or dangerous individuals.
  • Provides operational support at major incidents, special events, and outages or other community emergency conditions. Physical Security Officers may be required to work extra hours during emergency situations.

And have the ability to:

  • Display original thinking and creativity, meet challenges with resourcefulness, generate suggestions for improving work, and develop innovative approaches to complex problems.
  • Stay up to date on laws, policies, procedures, and strategies that promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Operate electronic access control systems; digital video management systems; and radios, and other communication devices.

The starting hourly wage for this position is commensurate with knowledge, skills, education, and experience as it relates to the position. The hourly wage range for this position is $25.25 – 30.42/hour.

Minimum Training and Experience Required:

Minimum Experience: Two years of experience as a certified and licensed Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Security Officer or equivalent experience. Experience in law enforcement or military desired.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent education.

Desirable education, experience, training and certifications: Three years of experience as a certified and licensed Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Security Officer, ASIS PSP, code enforcement, criminal justice, social services, or related disciplines. Handcuff and OC Spray training or the ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of experience and education may be qualifying.

Oregon driver license: Yes, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Professional license or registration: Oregon DPSST Unarmed Security Officer or the ability to obtain within 14-days of appointment. EWEB covers the scheduling and cost of training if required.

Post-offer criminal record check required: Yes.

Safety Sensitive Position: Yes

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Shift: This is a rotating 8-hour shift. Other: Varying schedules and EWEB locations. Occasional unscheduled work to support emergency conditions/contingencies and responses.

Physical activities (with or without accommodation): This position requires moderate to high levels of physical exertion, repetitive exertion and/or hazardous working conditions. This includes physical tasks such as walking patrols over uneven ground and standing or sitting for long periods.
