Job Description
Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Security Director and Supervisor and in accordance with established procedures is responsible for monitoring utilization of restricted parking areas patrolling the assigned parking areas and reporting of any unusual or suspicious activities to the Security Dispatcher for investigation. Protects Hospital buildings assets and premises as assigned and provides security for patients employees and visitors.
Responsibilities:
Is aware of all building locations and parking areas on the hospital complex and observes unsafe conditions and reports them to the Security Dispatcher (BASE) for investigation to ensure a secure and safe environment of care.
Patrols Hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire theft vandalism and intruders. Monitors conduct of visitors on Hospital premises confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed. Reports security and safety violations and/or fire hazards to appropriate personnel.
Challenges individuals acting suspiciously. Provides security presence for suicide/combative patients and restrains when requested by medical staff.
Participates in security investigations maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
Secures offices and facilities as required. May be asked to secure certain personal articles of visitors or lost and found articles and maintains a log of items received. Checks buildings and department doors in Hospital complex after hours to ensure they are locked.
Control parking and traffic flow enforces parking regulations Assists employees if feasible who have minor problems with their vehicles.
Will assist visitors with giving directions to departments within the Hospital escorting them if necessary.
Checks people entering after visiting hour preventing entrance of unauthorized or undesirable persons. Asks for visitors destination with Hospital campus contacting Hospital personnel to verify appropriateness of visit. After communication with other Security personnel may forcibly eject inebriated or uncontrollable persons from premises with assistance as necessary from other Security Personnel.
Provides escort services to bank for fiscal service employees depositing funds and to parking areas for employees working morning evening or night shifts. Escorts services may require driving the hospital owned/leased motor vehicles including greeting passengers with courtesy and tact and providing assistance as necessary for safe vehicle entry and exit.
Responds to CODES and all serious calls for security service according to policy and procedure.
Responsible for proper handling usage and maintenance of Hospital radio equipment including replacing batteries or arranging for repairs as needed.
Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Lifespan Policies and Fleet Risk Control Policy and procedures.
1st Shift Car 1 will act as a liaison coordinator for contracted services. Will ensure all schedules/ paperwork is completed correctly. Will investigate any discrepancies in staffing. Will verify and coordinate all new contracted officer
Other information:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of High School or equivalent to deal effectively with Hospital employees patients and the public.
Interpersonal skills to interact with patients visitors and employees physical ability to stand and walk for long periods of time visual ability in order to observe activities in assigned areas.
Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid drivers license I order to operate assigned motor vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with the Lifespan Fleet Risk Control Policy.
Must have appropriate and active drivers license with manual and motor skills to drive hospital security and other vehicles as required.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous training in security techniques or directly related job experience.
One week of on-the-job experience to become familiar with Hospital complex policies and procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Works in all environments of the Hospital complex including offices patient care environments parking areas buildings control rooms etc.
Must be able to remain standing for long periods of time.
Capable of climbing multi-levels of stairs for assistance and be able to complete services.
Capable of running a minimum of 1/2 mile.
Capable of lifting occasionally weights in excess of 50 lbs.
Able to pass physical test as prescribed by the Work Lab.
