Our Opportunity:
Chewy is growing and we are looking for Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) based in Boston, MA, Minneapolis, MN or Seattle, WA. Loyalty Engineering is a new team focused on building a product which is a mix of backend and frontend technologies. In this role, the ideal candidate will engage in iterative development, testing, and make contributions to the growth and development of one of Chewy’s innovative platforms. As an SDET, you will provide thought leadership to build a test automation framework to support this platform. You will be building automated test harnesses for new, scalable user experiences designed to wow our customers. You will help drive innovation, scalability and maintainability while working with our highly skilled engineering teams.
What you’ll do:
- Create and review test cases to maximize potential for automated test execution.
- Orchestrate and manage release activities to ensure a clean deployment with data quality of each element.
- Track, monitor and document test plans and testing results. Analyze test results and understand the root cause of defects.
- Implement programmatic tests at varying scope (unit, component integration, system integration, performance, etc.)
- While working within an Agile environment, you will work with Developers, Product Managers and Designers to identify proper and effective testing strategies, beginning in the planning phases of a feature.
- Build test infrastructure to fit into our CI platform. Identify and develop automation opportunities in the release and validation process.
- Assess and evaluate new tools and testing methodologies. Create test tools and frameworks for automated and reusable testing.
- Design and implement tools and frameworks to simplify test development, including simulators/mocks and data generators.
- Design test automation in variety of software domains: web-based, native iOS and Android applications, event-based systems and databases.
- Take ownership of end-to-end data quality and rules implementation. Conduct detailed source-to-destination data testing; identifying issues with data integrity, data accuracy and transformation logic
- Provide peer feedback in design and code reviews.
What you’ll need
- Understanding of TDD, BDD, and data-driven test practices
- Experience with UI test automation, experience with Selenium and/or Appium
- B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical discipline
- Experience with unit test frameworks or other integration test frameworks (open source or commercial)
- Familiarity with RDBS and SQL
- Solid programming experience in one or more object-oriented languages such as Java, Swift, Kotlin, Javascript, Python, or C# (most of our development is in Java, with some other JVM languages)
- Minimum 3+ years of automation test development with scalable distributed microservice application.
- 3-5 years as a Quality Engineer or Software Engineer
Bonus:
- Knowledge of Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Bamboo, Confluence)
- Experience working in Agile teams (Scrum, Kanban)
- Experience in React, Vue, or Angular
- Experience developing CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or similar tools
- Familiarity with performance, scalability or security/pentest.
- Knowledge of VM test environments and/or cloud-based compute environments. Familiarity with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
Compensation & Benefits:
Our salary range for a SDET position is $91,000 - $183,500. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
