Job Description

Role overview

Our Stealth Company is a top-tier VC-backed immunology company building on work from premier labs at Johns Hopkins. The Analytical Scientist will focus on the physiochemical characterization of protein-based immune cell engaging molecules to enable the development of effective therapies for immune-related disorders including cancer and autoimmune disease. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently, and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to prioritize product candidates for protein generation and coordinate biological characterization and validation of molecules both in vitro and in vivo. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, collaborative and innovative scientist with a proven ability to solve complex problems. As one of the first ten employees, you will be contributing significantly and directly to the development of therapies for patients in need.


Responsibilities

· Support research, pharmaceutical sciences, antibody development and biopharmaceuticals process development for diverse therapeutic biologics in the pipeline for early-stage product development.

Protein characterization; release and stability assays development & qualification; in-process assays in support of: cell line development, cell culture production, downstream production, formulation, fill & finish development; compatibility studies and comparability studies

· Develop and optimize analytical methods such as: invitro cell based potency assays, product identity, SEC-MALS, IEX-HPLC, HIC-HPLC, RP-HPLC, NP-HPLC, cIEF, cGE, LC-MS (intact proteins and peptides), binding kinetics, target specificity, automated media & cell testing, osmolality, residual moisture, appearance testing, oversight of visual inspection, cryo DSC, impurities (HCP, HCDNA, proteinA, and impurities) as well as other analytical methods to support protein (protein folding/structure, X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, DSC, CD, etc.) and glycan characterization of biopharmaceutical products.

· Support testing and cross training of other team members for unit operations development which include, upstream and downstream process development.

· Assisting technology transfer of analytical methods to CDMO’s and oversight of testing performed by contractors including CDMOs.

· Contribute to the evaluation of new technology/equipment that can be applied across multiple programs.

· Document data accurately in electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) as per established company guidelines and procedures.

· Author technical reports, procedures, protocols, and presentations for all relevant work.

· Organizational support and cross-functional project team participation.

· Present at project team and company meetings.


Qualifications

· BS or MS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.

· 2+ years of experience in industrial laboratories supporting production and characterization of protein therapeutics.

· Advanced technical expertise in bioanalytical and physicochemical methodologies used to characterize protein therapeutics (as described above)

· Experience in analytical liquid chromatography in application to monoclonal antibodies and other engineered recombinant proteins in support of the responsibilities described above

· Previous experience in MALS as well as mass spectrometry-based methods will be a plus

· Working knowledge of data processing and analysis tools in Excel, FlowJo, JMP and other statistical software

· Hands on experience with method qualifications and transfers, including carbohydrate analysis and peptide map methods

· Experience with LC, MS and CE instruments handling and troubleshooting

· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced matrix team environment and collaborate across multiple projects simultaneously

· Strong interpersonal skills, good written and verbal communication skills.

· Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and electronic lab notebook (ELN)
